The OP guys gathered a lot of good data. That's what I remember off the top of my head after 13 hours of X-Wing and 3 hours of sleep.
Another 6 A-wing list taking a championship!
....err wait, did you guys just let Alex win so that you didn't feel bad for beating him at his own game?
I most certainly did NOT give him any quarter. I wanted that plaque. He can't play in a regional, so I got the bye either way. Now I gotta go win another event just for the plaque (you can only win one bye).

Amazing job winning with A wings Alex. Any chance their will be video of that?
Edited by LegionThreeI won the Monstore (Montclair, CA.) store championship last night. 22 players, 5 rounds of swiss and cut to Top 8. First round started at 1 pm and ended at 12:30 am. Definitely a turret heavy meta.

Ha, that's pretty hilarious, and awesome. Congrats on 2nd place... I guess if you're going to lose, then you might as well lose to the game designer.
How many people were present, out of curiosity?
Good to know that one of the designers is pretty skilled at the game.

Matt can confirm, but I saw a post yesterday that said there were 46.
If you think about the amount of play testing the designers must do, they would have to be some of the best players on the planet. How many other people get paid to go to work everyday and play Xwing?
Flat Land Games, Wixom, MI
As stated above, 45 participants. I'll look into getting the full list data into the system. I'm not sure what the TO was going to do with the information...
It was a large, very diverse event, with a lot of Michigan's best players. Lots of meta lists, lots of meta HATE lists. Lots of meta hate lists that were weak to other parts of the meta. Every new round brought potential for utter disaster. Hopefully we can get the full list together, some really cool stuff was played.

I'm not sure on this one, since 8th place had some tie breaker trouble, and by the time it was figured out I was deep into my match. If I am correct, it was....
Kenkirk + VI (need upgrade info)
Echo + VI + ACD + (need upgrade info)
Edited by phild0Thanks Phil!!!!
I was involved in that tie breaker madness. There were 8 or 9 of us with 3 wins that needed the tie breaker.
Wow, six A-wing swarm. Imagine that. I wonder where he got that idea...
Hmmm...

Yeah... While they did a good job running it quickly, I suspected they weren't doing the pairings properly (highest MoV vs. 2nd highest MoV). This was confirmed when they messed up the 8th place tie breaker. I talked with them after we figured out 8th and said they need to go back through and reseed 3-7, and they said that they randomly seeded them so no need to reseed. If I'd known that, I would have volunteered my services at the beginning to help with running the tourney.
Thats crazy about those A-wings but I'm glad to hear good things about my favorite ship! I just can't figure out how they'd beat that Han lol

I ran 4As with Luke and beat a Fat Han in a tourney last week. Basically, it's about predicting his flight path and then, going after him for the start, getting as many shots as possible. Use asteroids in a triangle in the middle and use a couple of A's to clog up Han's best movement options and or block.

One of the podcasts, either NOVA Squadron Radio or Scum and Villainy on Team Covenant, has talked about the viability of an A-Wing swarm as a way of manipulating MOV. The essential idea is that you do well, but your MOV matches you up with other players who aren't at the VERY TOP of your bracket. An interesting idea.
Dang it @Icareane.
I wasn't the first person to win a Store Champ with this list:
Whisper + VI + ACD + FCS
Captain Oicunn + Predator + Rebel Captive + Gunner + Ysanne Isaard + Engine Upgrade
And here I thought Captain Oicunn was under-appreciated!
Oicunn/Whisper was pretty popular at team covenant store championship. Chiraneau/Whisper was even more popular.
Just got home from a store championship up in Great Falls, MT. The store there was running back to back Tournaments, Winter kit on Saturday, store championship Sunday. It was a pretty small turnout, with only six people. (Well, seven, but the store owner dropped to make sure nobody would have to take a bye and not get to play. Three round Swiss, 70 minute rounds. If I recall correctly, the only game that went to time was in round 2, between #3 and #6.
1st (me)
Han Solo w/ Title, Engine Upgrade, Push the Limit, Kyle Katarn, and C-3PO
Dagger w/ Advance Sensors

2nd
Boba Fett w/ Veteran Instincts, Heavy Laser Cannon, Rebel Captive, Title
Oicunn w/ Gunner, Vader
3rd
2x Dagger w/ Advanced Sensors
2x Gold w/ Ion Cannon Turret
4th
Keyan Farlander w/ Advanced Sensors
Lt. Blount w/ Ion Pulse Missiles
4x Bandit
5th
Nera Dantels w/ Deadeye, 2x Adv Torpedo, B2/E Mod, C-3PO
Kyle Katarn w/ Ion Turret, Jan Ors, Title
Biggs Darklighter
6th
Horton Salm w/ Ion Turret, Shield Upgrade, R2-D2, Proton Torpedo
Grey w/ Ion Turret, Shield Upgrade, R2-F2, Proton Torpedo
Prototype w/ Proton Rocket, Munitions Failsafe
It was an interesting tournament as far as win loss records. #1 had three wins, #2 had two wins, and everyone else had one win each. Nobody went 0-3, which is nice. Also amusing, the Saturday event was all imperial, but the Sunday event was almost all rebel.

Yeah, that's Sean Dorcy (Xwingtoman) on our NOVA cast, who has been a fan of the A-wing list for playing the MoV in timed games. The final match in this case was also timed, because the FFG store was closing.

Were they doing it by hand? Drives me nuts people wont use free software that is proven to run events nice and smooth.

I think he's been reading the forums a bit and found a couple posts about some one winning tourneys with six A-wings. Some bright trend-setter who will remain nameless... I can't wait to see six A-wings all over the place at regionals.
Though I have to admit I'd never considered it as a means to manipulate MoV. Not quite my style.
I can assure you Alex did not manipulate MoV. He was 4 and 1 in the seeding rounds, dominating his opponents. He had a strong MoV (manipulating MoV involves intentionally keeping it low, but winning). He was the top 4-1 IIRC. He and I slugged it out, Han was just being useless. The Zs did all the work. It's hard to say if I could have pulled it off given unlimited time. I popped an A in both turn 1 and 2, but also lost a Z each turn (no attention was paid to Han). After that it got a little murky. It was close. Two more hull on one and I would have been a head on points. Alex really wanted the win, and it was well deserved. I'll get him next time. We are about 50/50 and we play a lot of games together.
I have a couple more local chances at winning a plaque, and one to TO. I'll get that final elusive bit of kit.
Wouldnt 6a wings get dominated by Phantoms?Unless the Phantom player gets himself blocked badly ofc.
