Playoteket, Lund, Sweden - Store Championship on April 8 2015

Small store with eight players participating so we played three rounds of swiss.

The larger shop in neighbouring Malmö had its Store Championship last month and had 24 players and I was the TO.You can watch three of the play-off games on my Youtube channel

In this one I got to play. And even if it was a small tournament the competition was steep as we had the 2013 Nordic champion, runner-up and seventh placed (me).

16 players, 4 rounds of Swiss, no cut.

A bit of context: this event was scored... unconventially. SoS was used as the first tie breaker, with 1st and 2nd locked in at the final table. Hence why I took 3rd, rather than the 2nd I should have gotten by the numbers. Doing it properly would have affected the middle ranks, but 1st place would have been unchanged so in the end no one was unhappy. Well, no one was unhappy enough to make a fuss about it. Fly Casual, and all that.

Hey that's really close to the Terminators build that I have been flying lately with Buzzsaw HLC! Congrats on getting 2nd/3rd.

That's interesting. Could you explain the decision to run HLC rather than the Mangler?

I can speak for my own squad, it is quite simple.

MOAR DAMAGE!!

It actually does matter vs SuperFel in the matchups I have played - and the only drawback is range 1. And with only 2 ships you want as much damage as possible.

But if you're giving-up Predator for the HLC, aren't you actually losing damage in the long run?

NA because you get the TL queue going and it's fine. If you roll terrible on the first roll you can always opt to NOT spend the focus, and attack again 4 dice with TL+F.

Do we know yet if the FFG software is going to allow output for regionals? It'll be a real shame if we don't have data for the most diverse meta the game has ever seen.

Have been thinking of running this exact build but with ig88a & b.

Even with hlc at range 1 if you whiff your pilot ability still kicks in then instead of performing an attack you use feedback array.

Sure it's legit.

Don't think that would work. B's text says may perform an attack with a cannon.

As Juggler says, I was just going for maximum damage. I tried Advanced Sensors, Predator and Mangler for a while, but then I got soundly and repeatedly thrashed by Sam (who is a lot better than 10th place indicates) who ran rings around me with Soontir. What shots I did get were at range 3, usually against Stealth Device + Focus + Focus + Evade + Autothrusters, and 3 dice just wasn't enough. I didn't imagine it would be enough against Phantom players, either. Thus I went the "blunt instrument" route, and it worked a treat. My only loss was to the eventual second place, which was not the build's fault. More the fault of him for outflying me so thoroughly and me for botching the initial approach so completely.

Though, despite the damage output coming off the HLC+FCS combos, the real MVP of the tournament was Feedback Array. Not only did it actually make Soontir and other fragile arc-dodgers killable, it prevented a lot of damage by forcing said arc-dodgers to go out of their way to keep their distance. That meant less dice and less modifiers being thrown my way, which played a huge part in my first two wins (against Tom Dobson's Soontir Swarm and Sam's Admiral Fel). I can't imagine running IGs without it now.

Thanks. It's actually closer again; I mistyped 88C instead of the 88D I actually ran. It just sort of came together after I moved away from Predator + Mangler + Advanced Sensors. Without Advanced Sensors ensuring I'd have the maximum number of opportunities to boost, 88C just didn't feel as good, so I tried D and loved the extra options he presented.

Don't think that would work. B's text says may perform an attack with a cannon.

And feedback array states instead of performing an attack suffer 1 damage & ion to inflict 1 damage. So it's forfeiting your gunner/cannon attack to trigger feedback.

The wording on feedback array is that you may use it 'instead of performing any attacks'; I'm thinking that means you can't use it if you attack with your HLC.

Hey that's really close to the Terminators build that I have been flying lately with Buzzsaw HLC! Congrats on getting 2nd/3rd.

I've played your Terminators squad a few times and I absolutely love it. The only change I made was D -> C as above. I found I never really missed the option to turn a sloop into a hard-sloop. I did, however, greatly enjoy 3 forward into boost: effectively a 6 straight for an evade token with turn 1 HLC double-taps that no one expects! IG's chew up large turreted ships, especially in the Terminator configuration. I did, however, manage to lose to a "Han Shoots First" style build when teaching a new player his first game. He flew very well, having a wargaming background, and I left only Han on the board with 3 Hull, 1 Shield (******* R2-D2...).

And feedback array states instead of performing an attack suffer 1 damage & ion to inflict 1 damage. So it's forfeiting your gunner/cannon attack to trigger feedback.

From the latest FAQ :

Feedback Array is resolved during the Combat phase in normal pilot skill order (using initiative to break ties) instead of resolving combat steps 1–7 (see core rules page 10).

If you attacked, you already began the combat steps and cannot use Feedback Array.

Okay but if you get a new attack, would you not go through some of these steps again anyway?

Feedback Array also says "instead of performing any attacks ." Performing an attack violates that condition, so if any further attacks come up you can't meet the requirements.

I think it reads like it MIGHT work with Gunner. But Iggy B I don't think there is any interpretation that would allow it.

Feedback array:

"During the Combat Phase, instead of performing any attacks ..."

Once you perform any attack , you cannot use Feedback Array. Therefore you cannot use Feedback Array instead of a 2nd attack via IG88B or gunner, because you have already performed an attack that round. Case closed.

wow, that 4 shuttle list with tacticians looks interesting.

wow, that 4 shuttle list with tacticians looks interesting.

I'll say. Stress for days!

That being said, running it does require buying both 4 Shuttles and 8 Phantoms. That's quite the outlay.
