Star Wars vs. Star Trek

By Nickel, in X-Wing Battle Reports

A rift in the time-space continuum has dropped a Borg invasion fleet into the middle of the Galactic Civil War. Rebels and Imperials have joined forces to defeat this new enemy.

We gave an extra 50 points to the Star Wars fleet because Attack Wing is a bit overpowered in comparison to X-Wing Miniatures and the Borg all have 360* firing arcs. We used Star Wars rules except for the few things that didn't convert properly.

The game took quite a while due to the amount of ships we had to move and whatnot, but judged from a game round perspective, it was a very quick game. It took 2-3 rounds to get into combat range and then we only battled for a few rounds after that. The Star Wars players decided that our best strategic move would be to ignore the Scout Cubes and to focus-fire on the Queen's vessel and the Tactical Cube. After those were destroyed, we would mop up the Scouts.

As the opposing forces came together, Col. Jendon target locked the Queen's vessel and the Tactical Cube, then passed the Tactical Cube's lock to Chewbacca. The Borg were only able to kill an Academy Pilot on the opening salvo. On the next round, the Queen captures Chewbacca in her tractor beam and reduces his health by half with her Cutting Laser. The Tactical Cube moves to reinforce the Scout Cubes. Another Academy pilot is killed and an Interceptor is damaged.

On the next round, the TIE swarm and Cubes end up in a furball. The Tactical Cube drops its Multi Kinetic Neutronic Mines directly onto the TIE swarm, but it fails to produce any results. The Scouts kill Howlrunner, an Interceptor and the final Academy TIE. The Borg Queen and Chewy are unable to move because of the tractor beam. The Cutting Laser fails to damage Chewbacca significantly.

On the final round, the Scouts scatter and the Tactical Cube attempts to flank the swarm. The Avengers move to engage and the Alpha K-turns behind a Scout. Chewbacca survives another attack from the Queen and kills her when he returns fire, leaving the Z-95s with nothing to do. The Scouts are able to kill Etahn, but the Interceptors are able to kill the Tactical Cube. After this happens, the Borg player calls the game because he feels that he is unable to win. Most of our remaining fleet was undamaged and we outnumbered his Scouts 3-1, so he is probably right. It would have only been a matter of time before we were able to hunt down and destroy his Scouts, which are equivalent to E-Wings and Defenders. I'm still a little disappointed that we didn't play it out to the end.

Star Wars wins!!!

Haha, that looks like a lot of fun. I've never played Attack wing so I have no idea what the game mechanics are.

Someone needs to do a 3 way battle between D&D, Attack Wing, and X-wing.

Some of the things that were different were:

Scan Tokens - spend so that the defender rolls one less agility die.

Disable Tokens - Secondary weapons can be disabled rather than discarded. Then can be reactivated with an action.

Wow, those AW models look...bad...

Where's the flame war??!

Oh-there isn't any...

Good.

Carry on!

:)

Actually it seems like a very good idea! Any plans for Vindicator vs USS enterprise?

Oh Yeah!!! Or just trek vs D&D or Wars vs D&D. I haven't seen any giant space-dragons destroy a starship since the Galactic Empires CCG (way back in the 90s)

If I can give a suggestion, when playing on a 3x6 table, deploy on the long edges instead of the short ones. It gives both player more room to maneuver while approacing, shorten the time spent just to get into combat and can prevent a big confrontation in the middle that doesn't use all the space available.

Other than that, go Star Wars!
