Dash's ability and With Outrider

By knightpadawan22, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I played my first tournament yesterday and I bumped a ship does his ability kick in or not (because is the ship not an obstacle),and last question I used Outrider with him and I lost my heavy laser cannon with a critical hit. Am I able to use his primary weapons, since he lost his secondary weapon,or does Outrider effects make him with no weapons at all.

Thanks For the help and yes I am new to the game. :D

Yes you are. If you discard the HLC you no longer have a cannon upgrade card equipped. Outrider disables the primary attack only if you have a cannon upgrade. Which you don't.

Equipping the Outrider title card without a cannon is legal. The primary attack works.

As you said, ships are not obstacles so you cannot ignore them with dash's ability.

Dash's ability only allows him to ignore obstacles (asteroids and debris clouds) during the activation phase. If he bumps/overlaps another ship, the normal overlap rules still apply to him.

And if he ends up on an asteroid he can't shoot.

Correct, as per normal rules.

To continue this question's topic, what if he overlaps a ship that is an obstacle, like the Decimator using Tactical Jammers? Does he ignore that ship at that point?

A decimator/Shuttle with a Tac Jammer is not an obstacle per se, instead it obstructs attacks.

Also, remember overlapping a ship is a different thing then running into an obstacle. And his ability also only applies in the Activiation Phase and not in the Combat Phase and so it would still be an obstructed attack.

Reread "tactical jammer". It does not make a ship an obstacle. It's still a ship - it just is able to obstruct attacks.

**** so during combat IF Dash is on a rock he can not fire? does he still have to roll for 1 damage from the rock? i have been playing him wrong i would like to get that cleared up b4 i play again

No, when he moves it's during the activation phase and he get to ignore obstacles then. Normally this is when you would roll for damage, but he gets to ignore it here. When it gets to the combat phase, the normal rules apply and if he's still on a rock, he can't fire.

That is why the YT-2400 has a barrel roll. When Dash flies onto an asteroid or debris, he ignores it and then he uses barrel roll to get off it so he can attack during the combat phase. And if he has PTL, he can still give himself another action.
