Wait. What???

Okay, so I frequent the rules subforum here.

Turns out, the Dauntless title and Night Beast are phrased similarly.

That means that you get the stress from Dauntless before the "Check Stress" step.

In other words, if the Dauntless rams a ship with a green maneuver, it gets then immediately clears that stress.

I felt that this should become general knowledge, as it blew my friggen mind.

Wow. I never realized that either. It'll probably get FAQ'd at some point....

I guess that's a good thing though. It prevents you from taking the free action if you already had a stress on you. That way you can't Dauntless every turn while you're ramming amok amongst the enemy formation? Is that how it would work?

It goes thusly:

  1. Ram
  2. Action
  3. Stress
  4. Stress removal
  5. Repeat.

Moreover, with Daredevil, it goes like this

  1. Ram
  2. Daredevil
  3. Ram
  4. Action
  5. Stress
  6. Stress
  7. Stress removal

So if you do have a pre-existing stress token from the previous turn you don't get the action from Dauntless

Right.

wait why do you get a second action(#4) in your second example?

Yeah how would you be able to use daredevil before the stress got applied?

wouldn't it look more like

1. Ram

2.Activate Daredevil because of Dauntless

3.Ram

4.Stress x2

5.Remove 1 stress for green

Ah that makes more sense

Nested triggers.

With Dauntless, PTL, and Experimental Interface, you get the whole action before you get the stress.

With Daredevil, you get the maneuver, the dice, then the stress. Dauntless triggers off of the maneuver.

Nested actions and triggers. The first time Dauntless triggers, it gives you a free action. Daredevil is the action that is chosen. Daredevil causes Dauntless to trigger which grants a free action. TL is chosen. Stress from the second Dauntless activation is applied then stress from Daredevil is applied then stress from the first Dauntless activation is applied. Then one of the 3 stress tokens is removed during the check pilot stress step.

If you had Fleet Officer and Experimental Interface it would get even sillier and have you trying to shed stress from that one rpund for the rest of the game.

ok good to know since i'll be playing a Oicunn(DD+title) with Capt.Yorr tomorrow.

Maybe a BSP or two with Wingman to keep up with all the stress.

That's nuts!

Seems really cool until you think about the next few rounds of clearing stress and not being able to Dauntless...

Or being the highest PS to be shooting at something with Rebel Captive and not being able to Dauntless...
