Dauntless stress timing question

---- Trigger Dauntless

------- Perform Dauntless Action

------- Trigger Experimental Interface (from action above)

---------- Perform EI Action

---------- Gain EI Stress

------- Gain Dauntless Stress

If he had a way to clear those 2 stress immediately, Yorr for example, would he then be allowed to take an action in his perform action step?

edit: Thinking about it, probably not. He still overlapped someone with his maneuver and would therefore skip the perform action step, even if he is no longer touching when the step actually happens.

Correct.

WAIT!

I really wanted to be on board with this sweet idea, and it seems that to some extent the clearing of stress with green maneuver/dauntless still works, However, looking back at the core rule-book it states that if you end up overlapping another ship, you must "skip this ship's perform action step." if this is true, there may be no second action unless you have brought Ysanne Isard, who activates a free evade at the beginning of the combat phase. So the way i understand it is:

Example

-Oicunn w/ Dauntless title executes a Green 2 forward, ramming into the side of another ship.

-Oicunn activates Dauntless and performs a free TL, and receives one stress token during the Execute maneuver phase.

-Oicunn then enters the check pilot stress phase and removes said stress token.

-Oicunn would normally enter the perform action phase here, BUT, since he has overlapped another ship, he must skip this step.

I believe i have this right, as he can remove his stress and still perform Ysanne Isard's evade in the combat phase, but TL, then focus, then evade, then EI Expose would not work. you could still do TL, evade, then EI Expose if I'm not mistaken...

Please let me know if I've missed something or if I'm forgetting an important obscure rule.

Interesting topic. Quick question;

Say I have Oicunn+dauntless+Expert handling+EI ram into another ship, could I use the free action to take a TL, then trigger EI to barrel roll so that I'm no longer touching and most likely have a range 1 shot on the ship I was previously overlapping?

Yep, although you'd end up with two stress for it.

How is this possible? Normally one may not perform an action when stressed, not even free actions. So if stressed from Dauntless then you wouldn't ba able to use EI, or am I missing something? And before any storm of berating begins let me say that I am no expert in these intricate timing issues in which so many are so excellent

It's the way nested actions work. Everything on the list has you take a stress after the thing on the card that is a trigger for another card.

1. You make a maneuver and bump an enemy ship. This triggers Dauntless.

2. Dauntless tells you to take an action and then take a stress.

3. You choose to take a Target Lock, which triggers EI, the original action taken from Dauntless has still not finished resolving so no stress yet.

4. EI allows you to perform an action that's not on your bar and then take a stress.

5. The action that you take with EI is Daredevil.

6. Daredevil allows you to take a maneuver and then take a stress.

7. The maneuver from Daredevil bumps again which is allows you to trigger Dauntless.

8. Since you haven't finished resolving the initial Dauntless, EI, or Daredevil you still have no stress.

9. Dauntless lets you take an action than take a stress.

10. You focus as the action from Dauntless.

11. You receive stress from the second usage of Dauntless now that the Focus action has resolved.

12. You receive stress from Daredevil now that your maneuver has finished resolving. (you'll also end up with damage since you don't have an Engine Upgrade)

13. You receive stress from EI now that Daredevil is finished resolving.

14. You receive stress from the initial Dauntless now that Target Lock is finished resolving.

15. Now you check for stress. If you performed a green maneuver you remove one of your four stress tokens.

Nothing that's listed happens in the ship's perform action step, You still lose that. Dauntless allows you to take an Action when you bump. That action happens before the Perform Action step would occur. If a pilot had a Pilot ability of "You may still take your Perform Action Step after overlapping another ship", Dauntless would be granting an extra action to them.

It's important to note that EI and PTL can trigger whenever an action is taken and are not limited to the Perform Action step.

So let me get this straight... I take Captain Oicunn, Ysanne Isard, Dauntless and Experimental Interface, when I perform a green manoeuvre that overlaps an enemy ship(I give that ship a damage card) then I perform a free action(target lock) and receive a stress token, then because of my green manoeuvre I lose the stress token and take a normal action(focus), then at the start of the combat phase Ysanne kicks in and I get a free evade action which kicks in the Experimental Interface which allows me to perform the action on my Expose card? That is crazy! :)

(...and just for good measure, I take Mara Jade, and leave everyone stressed) ;)

man this thread moves fast. my response was in regards to this one. which is now page one in the span of 10 minutes. ikes.

Ted had it wrong - the part I bolded in his description is incorrect. Everything else works, though.

Dauntless has you take a stress after the action.

The action you choose triggers EI, which lets you perform an action that's not on your bar and then take a stress.

EI trigger Daredevil which allows you to take a maneuver and then take a stress.

Taking a maneuver that causes you to bump let's you trigger Dauntless.

Dauntless lets you take and action than take a stress.

You take the action from Dauntless.

Now all of the stress resolves, step by step, back through the chain.

Huh?? Some editing with either some steps or empty lines would maybe clarify what you're saying (to me at least)

How about that?

1. You make a maneuver and bump an enemy ship. This triggers Dauntless.

8. Since you haven't finished resolving the initial Dauntless, EI, or Daredevil you still have no stress.

3. You choose to take a Target Lock, which triggers EI, the original action taken from Dauntless has still not finished resolving so no stress yet.

Minor point: the action you took from Dauntless has finished resolving. Dauntless itself has yet to finish resolving at this point.

I didn't like the way I worded it but couldn't think of anything at the time.

Using the Dauntless Title, you get the action before the "Perform Actions Step" would occur.

Colliding, you still lose the action. Otherwise, doing a Green with Dauntless would let you get 2 actions in a turn for ramming a ship.
