Looking for working M3-A build

By Redblock, in X-Wing

After new article is time to get to drawing board, and see there next wave will take us. After little brainstorming I came to this idea

Laetin - 18, heavy scyk 2 HLC 7 stealth device 4

It relies on green die too much, and you almost always need to take evade action, but if you manage to stay at long range for a few turns it pays off, and you still have 79 points for lots of nasty surprises. If you pair him with Serrisu it gets even more fun. Or Guri (or Kato leachos) with Bodyguard, or both for max amount of evil. You can get to 6 green this way - stealth + 2x bodyguard :D

bodyguard is unique :)

I pre-ordered five, so I made a five ship list and a possibly better four ship list, featuring a variety of cannons:

I Feel Scyk

Cartel x2

Cartel, Heavy, Ion Cannon x1

Laetin, Heavy, Mangler, Stealth

Serissu, PTL, Stealth

Heavy Scyks

Cartel, Heavy, Ion Cannon

Cartel, Heavy, Autoblaster

Leatin, Heavy, HLC, Stealth

Serissu, Heavy, Flechette Cannon, PTL, Stealth

It is kind of hard to figure out a build without, oh I don't know, say... a dial.

Would you spend 9 points to put a HLC on Howlrunner? Or a Tie Fighter? I can't get past how fast they go down if focused fired. My sons and I have played some test games using proxies. They die really fast. We have a motto at home " Green die look better in the hand than on the board".

The thing's got Barrel-Roll, so the Green Dice shouldn't be its primary defense.

That being said, I would totally run 4 HLCs or 5 mangoes in fleet. And now we can.

So would you fly Single formation, double or scattered? I'm interested in how others would fly them, so I could give it a go. What's the strat? What's the list?

One thing I will note. Barrel roll is a very efective defense at range one. Which kind of negates taking HLC. It's not as effective a defense at range 2 and 3.

I would think Laetin with an HLC & Stealth would be pretty survivable when flying next to Serissu. That's 4 green dice with a reroll every time it defends, and each time it succeeds in defending it gets an Evade token. Maybe add DTF to Serissu's wingmen to keep her going longer, she's basically the S&V Biggs here.

That's 50 points for those 2 ships. I would still be hesitant fielding it. I am, however, leaning towards the mangler cannons on them. It's a bit better cost efficient wise and I think suits their roles much better. A Cartel with Mangler is only 20 points. I would lean towards no upgrade on Serissu, except maybe Swarm tactics, to reduce her threat level. That might convince your opponent to shoot something else. The longer she lives the longer your squad mates live. In theory :).

Serissu, Swarm tactics. 22

Cartel, Mangler 20 x 3

Cartel, Fletchette. 18

100

I might give this a go at home.

Seriously... where is the maneuver dial everyone has access to to try this ship? Or just nothing 3 koiogran turns?

Yeah, we need a dial to judge this ship. If it has a subpar dial, this things going to be a turd.

Yeah, the mangler is the more conservative choice, but I still think Laetin is your best choice if you want to use an HLC.

I've been interested in using a pair of Cartels with Ion & Flechette as a control team.
