Shields and timing

By DarthGood, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

Some help here guys. Was playing the bro in law and had some questions for timing effects. If you have 2 "Asteroid bases" on the board, does that effect in the text of getting a blast or unit damage stack? You have to "remove" a shield in order for it to trigger, and it's an action. But once the shield is removed can you possibly get 2 blast or unit damage if it stacks? If it doesn't, why not? Question 2: if you have preparation for battle in play and the dial is past "8", does additional blast damage turn into an "either or" type situation if you have asteroid base on the board? If your units are shielded you get blast for "preparation for battle", but you have to remove shields for the effect of asteroid base. Do you get both effects? Thoughts? Thanks for your input gang!

1) No. Removing a shield is a cost to use the Action of Asteroid Base, and even if it were not, two Actions may not be used simultaneously. However, if you are able to place another shield on the affected unit (or it already had multiple shields due to an effect such as Our Most Desperate Hour), you may use the Action of Asteroid Base again on the same unit.

2) "Shielded" means "there is a shield placed on this unit or objective." Continuous effects with a condition, such as that of Preparation of Battle, will stop working as soon as their condition is no longer met. So if you were to use the Action of Asteroid Base to remove a shield from one of your units, it is no longer considered shielded, and thus does not gain 1 Blast Damage icon from Preparation of Battle.

If Preparation of Battle instead read " Reaction : After you declare attackers, if the Death Star dial is at 8 or higher, shielded attacking units you control gain 1 Blast Damage icon until the end of the phase." it would work as you described, because the Reaction would only check once if the unit was shielded.

Great! Thank you for your help!

Glad I could!
