OK so it isn't repainted, but it was modified.

Here's my lot, again done with acrylic paint by a not so steady hand, looks a bit rougher when i see it zoomed in...

Garven. you might be able to see the pearlescent paint i use for the engines glow to give it a bit more pop... or not. I'll try to find a better one later...

Last, but not least, Biggs

I have to say, I was looking at the Luke close-up picture, and I thought, "Wow, some of those detail panels aren't too smooth. They look rather rough and worn at the edges... exactly as they should."

So, I'd say you lucked out on the perfect tool for the job here!

Great job on them! Can I ask what you used as reference photos for the different details? I've been wanting to do Red Squadron repaints myself, but I must be worse at Google searching than everyone else. :(

Cheers, I found some pictures of the original models used in the movies. I'll try to attach a link if I can find it again.

Tried to look for the pictures i used but no luck. I remember finding something on this forum, one of the other members had done a wicked job of painting their X-wing's. Here's a link to start you off;

thats really nice, clean job with a bit of a weathered look. I might have to have another go at mine.

Luke's Red five and Wedge's Red Two. These were painted for the Assault at Imdaar Alpha event. Wedge's ship came out better though I suppose that's only natural since I painted it after Luke's X-wing.

Ooh, I like the blue. I was just thinking of painting a blue X-Wing the other day. Great timing for this post!

Snow day cancelled work, so I had some time to paint some X-wings today.

Can you get some close ups?

IMG_20150217_165857858_HDR.jpgHard to tell, but that's actually orange, not red.

IMG_20150217_165846015_HDR.jpgI didn't like the green in front of the cockpit, so I went back over it with the silver.

IMG_20150217_165829405_HDR.jpgThis one was very tricky around the cockpit, because I did the whole ship black first, then the gold around the cockpit, then had to go back and do the windows black again. The side windows are still pretty messy.

After a rather catastrophic accident while attempting to paint my Xwing, my buddy covered it with a silver base coat, and I went more minimalistic.

Admittedly, the blue was a liiiittle lighter than I anticipated, but I like the contrast of it against the silver. I might go back in later with another color to add some more details on the wings, but for now I like it.

That first one reminds me heavily of Sonic the Hedgehog. Great quality man. :)

Here we go with my attempt at "Red 3" (Biggs) and "Red 5" (Luke). These shots of the corresponding studio models served as a guideline:

Red 3: http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=3713

Red 5: http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=5942

Lesson learnt on this project: Don't mask, just freehand it! The red areas were masked before painting them as can be seen here. It was quite an effort and the result was not as crisp as intended. Even worse: The red color built up a little rim at the edges of the masking tape as I did not thin the paint (to avoid having it creep under the masking tape). Doh!
