Sketchup for Modifying a CR90

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

Bought a 90 dollar sketchpad for my computer so I could do something like this! This was my first attempt at visualizing my ideas and placing them on paper , er computer.

X-Wing Docking System Sketch

List of Changes

  • I want to make the "wings" wider and thicker
  • The underside escape-pod banks would be replaced with a launching system with 1/400 scale X-wings with s-foils closed. They would be exposed to space like the Gozanti, but be facing sideways, not forward. And they wouldn't be dangling off, but more secured with clamps around the wings and a tube that descends around the canopy and allows the pilot to travel between the X-wing and the Corvette.
  • The Dish would be replaced by a second pair of Double Turbolaser Turrets.
  • The Upper Single Turbolasers would be removed, and 2 Ion Cannon Batteries would be installed, with decently sized barrels, unlike the single turbolasers.
  • The back half would get the "Sundered Heart" Treatment, but with thinner panels and extended intakes.
  • Add a ventral blast door in-between double turbolaser 1 and 2, on the spine. It would be able to fit One 1/400 scale X-wing if it flew in straight up, and would be the only "hanger" where the crews can make repairs and reload ordnance.

The result should be a significantly bulkier corvette with the ability to carry 6 (3 on each side) X-wings around and serve as a mini pocket carrier. Theoretically it could service a whole squadron, but only 6 could remain docked at a time, so the most common load-out is 6 fighters.

Construction

Currently I own a repainted corvette, and will be using that as the base. I hope to either re-learn my skills with autocad or hire someone else to help 3D print the "wings" and the Sundered Heart parts, as well as the 1/400 scale x-wings.

I am bad with Plasticard, found that out with 40k modeling. I also lack lots of the tools, which also hampers my skill, so 3D printing looks really good right now. And as a added bonus, I could convert a second one easily as well, or share the parts here for everyone to have the opportunity to use them.

The Project is in the development stage, will be drawing out more detailed versions after the rose-bowl today.

I will continue to modify the original post as I get under way.

What do you guys think of the Idea so far? I know there is only one picture (second one is in the works) but tell me what you think? Are you guys confused about anything? Have any advice? Tell me I want feed back! :D

This is going to be an ambitious conversion, and a fun ship once it is done.

Well, the problem I can foresee is that the Sundered Heart was not a CR90. It was a CR70, with a shorter hull and fatter components. If I were doing this, I'd start with the old Hasbro toy and go from there, because it's highly accurate to the SH's appearance in Empire at War:

In fact, apparently someone already did this:

I want to mimic the back of the sundered heart, but make it less toyish by thinning the flaps and making them into radiators to cool the massive engines by emitting radiation. Also extending and thinning the added engines I can make them look better.

I also aim to have a sketch done once a day/every other day
