Simple beginner touchups

By Ravncat, in X-Wing

So, I'm not even a beginner let alone a pro (And i'm sure it shows), and I don't have any painting tools - but I wanted to push my X-wing miniatures a little bit further, and I have 4 HWKs, so I thought it would be a good place to start, some moderate success has led me to try very small detail touches to my other models.

It's pretty neat that you can add very small details to really differentiate and give a feel to ships - and it's not a full repaint, but this post shows that absolute beginners and very minor detailing is enough to add quite a bit of life to the models...

So, the equipment I used?

Sharpie brush pen and sharpie oil paints...

The brush ones aren't shown here - I used the red and blue ones for the engines, and the brush red, blue and green for the other details...

So simple... So brilliant...

Ill be picking up some sharpie paint soon!

Sorry...

I was distracted by the AWESOME in these photographs!

Those little touch ups are great, the best thing though, your presentation.

I've used Sharpies too, and it's so easy it feels like cheating! Great post.

I dont use sharpies but i often use 0.03 technical drawing pens in red and black for detail and 'painting' checks.

Remembered this post while out in town today. Bought a green and black and sat in the car with the engine running for 10 minutes having a bash at an A-Wing.

So. ****. Easy.

Not perfect, but easily fixed with an ink wash when I get back to my painting desk. Instantly bought half a dozen in blue, red, white and so on.

Results. Took about 30-40 minutes to do three ships. Not perfect, because I don't have access to my paint bench at the moment, but certainly tabletop worthy.

More work needed on the engines.

Wow, great idea. I not a model painter but this looks so good I need to hunt down some markers.

Looks nice even if using such a simple technique.

Simple doesn't mean lesser, I would argue the contrary. If it is simple there is less chance of making a mistake.
