opportunist and a secondary weapon

By Nuke0504, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Can you use opportunist to gain an additional die with a secondary weapon like ion torpedoes or a cannon of some sort

Looks like you can. Because it only states to "...roll 1 additional attack die." If it mentioned firing with your primary weapon, then yeah, you would not be able to use it. But since it only says to add one more die, then it seems that you can use "Opportunist" with a Secondary Weapon.

Yes.

If a upgrade doesn't say Primary Weapon or Secondary Weapon that means it's usable on any attack you make.

So I could potentially be rolling 6 attack dice with proton rockets on an awing, defender or advanced?

As long as it doesn't say primary weapon attack and meats all the conditions yes you can use it to increase any attack.

SO you can pump up say proton Rockets to 6 and Jan Ors pump it to 7 if you want.

Keep in mind other effects happen to so if you say pump up ion cannons to 4 even if you hit 4 times all hits are canceled and you end up doing 1 damage and 1 ion token.

Reading the proton rockets card it says that you can roll an addition die equal to the agility to a max of 3. So I'm guessing opportunist and Jan ors won't take affect. Am I right?

I don't believe FFG has formally answered this, but the consensus is that the "to a maximum of 3" only applies to the extra dice from the agility. So other effects which add dice can indeed take it over 5.

I'd agree with that assessment as well. These are two different effects from two different sources and both restrictions are being adhered to. Proton Rockets gives you no more than 3 additional dice from itself and Opportunist's only caveats are that the target have neither a focus or evade token and the activating ship does not have a stress token.
