oh my god the subforums

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

A cautionary tale.

So reddit has a set of default "subreddits" you are subscribed to. They make a single page of topics. However you can unsubscribe and sibscribe to a number of different subreddits. In essence you can create your own custom forum of topics that catch your interest.

Nice... I like it.., never been to that site, but if they did this like that.. I wouldn't hate it.. lol

maybe i need to find this reddit that you speak of.

I don't know, maybe it is me, but it seems like an awful lot of sub forums now. A moderate amount of sub forums would have been awesome, but I think they dialed in too many. Just adds clutter of choice when some probably wasn't needed. Like why the need for an off topic forum ? If there is such a need for off topic discussions of things not X wing wouldn't people just discuss them else where ? Seems like the dark side of freedom to me, just the kind of dark side the emperor gave his life to protect the galaxy from, bless him.

yeah I personally liked it better the way it was as I could scan everything at once now I have to jump around to find hot topics etc... though its not really a big deal.. I mean if I didn't like something that was OT I didn't comment or didn't read it!! just thought it was kind of funny the way some folks got all ballistic on minor topics.. but now we will surly have the "Post police" when somebody posts something in the WRONG forum!!! In the air Force we had a saying "A complaining Airman is a Happy Airman" we didn't really say "complaining" that's the rated "G" version..lol

Having half a dozen giant subforum elements at the top of the page means wasting time to scroll to actual content, EVERY TIME.

At least they contain /some/ of the more annoying posters, or ought to.

squeaky wheels at work!!!

If you do I suggest unsubscribing to the defaults. They are a sespool normally. Find some none default subs that interest you. There is a Star Wars and even an X wing minis sub.

Be warned it is easy to waste a lot of time there. Even more than here!

If a half second of scrolling is too much for you.. maybe this isn't the place for you.. lol.. really.. smh.. I really hope you were being sarcastic..

Sorry folks but the subforums are a needed thing for some of us who have maybe been frequenting forums for over a decade. If people actually use them you'll find that they make everything better.

Personally I'm tired of the off topic threads.. now they can OT their butts off and I don't have to read it, kind of tired of the whiners and gripers too, but it seems I won't be rid of them any time soon..

It's easy.. if you wanna check those sub forum do so.. enjoy the content.. if you dont like repaints and conversions dont open it.. dont like battle reports.. dont open it.. heck people have still posed rules question in the main thread and battle reports.. calls for players here and there, when there are already well established forums for those...

But by all means.. lets gripe and moan about a great thing that has been asked for over a year to be made... smh

So many forum choices! What goes in the general forum anymore? I mean if we throw in Wish Lists, Speculation, and, Future Release in its "own" forum what goes into General. What happens when requests move across many forums? I mean having a "squad lists" forum may be ok but is that just to list squads or is it to help build squads? Although some questions get repetitive, and that will happen when people are so anti-resurrection, where should something go when you ask about an upcoming ship and how to use/build with/around it.?

That's ok I am sure the "post police" will kindly direct your off topic post to the proper location..lol They will of course call in the grammar police and then the "did you use the search feature police" for added reinforcements. Once you have been thoroughly policed you will then be directed where YOUR post should have been and how YOU should have used the search feature first... as by now ALL topics should have been thoroughly covered... lol "post casual"

I don't understand what is so horrible about showing people how to use the forum to their advantage.. as amusing as that was too read all I could think is.. is everyone a child for us to hold their hand through all the trials of life.. pointing out features of the forum is a good thing and pointing people to the right place for their questions is also a good thing..

We already have requests for gamer locations and lists in the main forum as it is.. pointing out to someone that that sort of thing goes to a specific forum helps them next time they want to post those items.. you make it out to be a bad thing, but when there is a set structure for something it never hurts to help them find it.. you don't just board a plane and sit in the cockpit do you, no you go where the passengers sit.. same thing really.. chaos is never the answer..

and why is it the old man of the boards is having to tell people this stuff.. I want to get to the part where I say stuff it and make my own way, instead of wiping all the snotty nosed kids.. I've done my time.. lol

That's kind of the crux of why people are getting upset.

You can be respected warrior heroes or ridiculous punk ass brats... now which is it?

Some of us are perfectly capable of cutting our own steaks with sharp knives and don't mind when the juices from the steak mix with the butter from the baked potato! However i know some folks just have to eat off sectionalized plates and have to have the crust cut off their bread for them. Instead of assuming that some folks are kids why didn't the "WE" assume that they are adults and can trim the fat off their own steaks and didn't need mom to do it for them? My peeve is being auto included in that "WE". In all seriousness its NOT a big deal just trying to show an alternate POV. that some folks just don't get. Some of us liked the diversity that was all in one place..

Random chaos lover...

Yeah yeah yeah... but when you go to the store you want to be able to get the steak and other meats all from the butchers department, and you want all of the vegetables in the produce section... BECAUSE IT IS SANITY TO ORGANIZE SUBJECTS.

Ain't dat right!

**** right it's right... and that is just what this random chaos zoo needed.

:lol::rolleyes::P

Actually, it would be nice to just go into the store and not have to wander through any "departments" to find the things I want. Either I could tell the cleric exactly want I want and not have to do any looking for it or it could all be right there in one easy to find spot.

Well. I have been using the new subforums for more than a full day now and I can say I really like them. It is MUCH MUCH easier to keep track of what is happening on the board and what conversations are going on, to say nothing of the time being saved by being able to ignore dozens of posts I don't care about.

When we were all clamoring for the expanded S-Fs there was always the possibility that we were wrong and that there wouldn't be enough traffic to justify them, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Battle Reports, Organized Play and Mission Control go away entirely, they have never seemed to generate enough traffic to justify separate categories, but I suspect it would be much harder to get FFG to delete an old subforum than it was to get them to make a new one, so....

I have been tracking the post count for a couple days, though they are slow to gain, Battle Reports and Organized Play do get frequented enough. Just not the volume that the main forum gains.
