Triple X list i'd like to try.

By enomiel, in X-Wing

So I got a GR-75 for Christmas (yes I pretty late considering it's release date but I didn't want to bother with epic...) and my 3rd X-wing with it so I began considering 3X list.

Of course there is the usual Wedge+Luke+Biggs but I wanted some variation on this so here is what I ended up with after some thought:

-Luke Skywalker, R2D2, Predator, improved shield: 39pts

-Biggs Darklighter, R5P9, improved shield: 32pts

-Tarn Mison, R7 astromech, improved shield: 29pts

Total: 100pts

I wanted to play with the two build considered "tanky" which are Luke+R2 and Tarn+R7 with improved shield for even more Tankines.

Tarn took wedge spot since I wanted emphasis on staying power rather than offense (I'm aware that offense often trump mitigation in this game but I wanted to try anyway).

I kept Biggs on the rooster since its ability goes well with a defensive mindset when played well, but because of this mindset I didn't want him naked as usual so I added an astromech and some more shield to help him not to fall too fast.

With this done I ended up with 3 spare points so I put a predator on Luke for added damage chance. The flying plan is quite the same as any 3X with Biggs: try to force the opponent to spread fire with positioning while wearing out his forces hopefully enough for my superior staying power to get me the upper hand in the late game.

Any thought and comment are welcome, late merry Christmas and early happy new year to all of you.

I played Tarn and R7 for the first time last week. I felt bad for the my smoking hot opponent (read: 'the Mrs.'). He was more amazing that Selma Hayak's two .. umm .. personalities.

I really want to try another triple X list actually....i think this has some potential:

Wes Janson + VI

Wedge + Opportunist + R2 unit

Biggs + R2-D2, Determination

Currently at 94 points, so 6 points for changing up droids and mods.

The idea is to just focus the hell out of 1 ship. Wes fires first, and strips defenses. Then Wedge shoots, hopefully triggering Opportunist for 4/5 dice and -1 defence on the enemy. And...Biggs can shoot too, but is there for obvious reasons.

Here's one that'll meet what you're looking for.

Luke Skywalker — X-Wing 28
Draw Their Fire 1
R2-D2 4
Shield Upgrade 4

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25
R5-P9 3

Jek Porkins — X-Wing 26
Elusiveness 2
R5-D8 3
Hull Upgrade 3

Another option that might suit your liking are:

Drop Hull on Porkins for Shield on Biggs. But the chances Biggs buys the farm is quite high.

The problem with Tarn is that his ability doesn't actually do anything until Biggs dies.

There is this, and my other problem with Tarn is thats he's just not really more tanky, it just fools you into thinking he is because "people wont want to shoot him".

Well....sure they will. Quite a lot of lists will just kill him in one turn anyway, and he's a lot easier to put down than Luke after Biggs drops.

All he is is a standard X-Wing that might sometimes get a free target lock. He dies just as fast (ie, very fast) as any other X-Wing.

It is a nice combo with the R7 droid of course, but that only works once per round. he'll still get absolutely shredded by any sort of concentrated fire from....well, almost anything really.

But if you play against Dash and Corran, or any other 2 ship build, then once per round is not so bad. Especially if you can force your opponent to shoot with one ship at Biggs, and with the other at Tarn.

True, but that takes a lot of fancy flying to ensure that 2 ships cant both target Biggs.

Against 2 ship lists Tarn is better, but i still dont value it that much i guess. It's nice when it pays off (opponent rolling all hits is a no brainer) but can be pretty tricky to decide when to actually use it, as if they didnt roll all hits you potentially are making things worse.

I can see why some people like him i guess, but i just dont rate him much.

You can actually decide which dice the attacker should reroll. So you just let him reroll the hits and crits.

Welll....huh. Today i learnt a thing.

That makes the combo better then, i agree. Still dont love him, but definitely better!

Extropia, get a EU and R3A2 on that Wes with the 6 remaining points, now you can smoke Phantoms, Corrans, and is quite annoying to deal with. I would prefer R4D6 on Biggs, because of how many Dashes you could face today, but you know better than me what you would be flying against.

R3-A2 was pretty much leading the pack for options, i think thats definitely going to be in there.

R4-D6 on Biggs....not sure. It does give nice insurance against the dreaded "all blanks" roll, but i'm wary of all the stress. I guess really Biggs doesn't need an action every turn....he is there to try to survive for as long as possible, everything else is secondary.

I'll try that out, thanks!

Here's a list I've played and had fun with.

Wes Janson, R3-A2, Veteran Instincts

Wedge Antilles, R2-D2, Predator

Luke Skywalker, R2 Astromech, Predator

Wes comes in first and strips the focus/evade token from something letting Wedge's attack have max impact. Luke has a R2 mostly just because I had a point left over. Wes at PS10 also can cripple a Phantom if you get a shot at it.

A surprisingly deadly three X list that I adore:

Wes + VI
Wedge + Opportunist + R2 Astromech
Luke Skywalker + Opportunist + R2D2

These guys have trouble with swarms, but can chew through Hans, Decimators, and Outriders.

Against lists featuring Dash, Biggs is very likely to die in two turns, but it is possible to snipe him in one turn easilly with HLC + Corran's double tap with FCS. R4D6 makes that much harder, forcing Dash to shoot another turn at Biggs, which buys you plenty of time.

It also works well against most lists tho, specially if they are forced to focus, like Phantoms, since they are less likely to get crits, and that way you are not forced to use the focus on his roll, being usable against other ships. It's really a good upgrade nowadays.

I have had great success running

Wes+VI+R3-A2 (32)

Wedge (29)

Biggs+R2-D6+Determination (27)

Bandit (12)

And

Luke+VI+R3-A2 (31)

Wedge+Predator (32)

Biggs (25)

Bandit (12)

While it departs from your triple X theme, adding the Bandit as opposed to three shield upgrades does a lot better for your squad as a whole. The bottom squad has only lost once since I started flying it in late October. The top squad was my go to squad for a while but I found that if I take Wes I can't afford Predator on Wedge without cutting the Bandit.
