Royal Guard escort build

By Grave13, in X-Wing

So lately I been looking at my Royal guard TIE interceptors. And always wanted to build a kick ass fun build using that theme of the Royal Guards escorting the imperial shuttle.

So what would you go with for a build using the crimson TIE interceptors and the Imperial shuttle.

I only have one shuttle and two Royal guard interceptors to actually make a themed list but the awsome thing is we have some new upgrades to play with . Im going for something that hits hard so maybe the buzzsaw shuttle...or maybe a doom shuttle..the royal guard interceptors can be real fun to build with the royal guard title.

How would you approach the build of a Imperial shuttle being escorted buy Royal guard interceptors?

I think a buzzsaw shuttle is the way to go . . . a doomshuttle is not a very good companion for a glass cannon list. I would do something like this:

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Royal Guard Pilot (22)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)
Royal Guard Pilot (22)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)
"Backstabber" (16)
Total: 100
The Stealth Devices are pretty important here as a counter to SuperDash, Decimator + Expose, Phantoms, and other four-attack ships. Four green dice against four red dice is much better than three against four, especially when one hit is a third of your health. Backstabber is there to fill in the remaining points, really. You could add an HLC to the OGP, and then give the Royal Guards titles and hull upgrades . . . and upgrade the shuttle to a named pilot . . . but I think that adding in another ship is more efficient here ;) .

Not the most creative and/or imaginative list, but I won my Imdaar Alpha event with this list. Haven't taken it to anything competitive lately, but have a feeling it will still probably hold up. Especially with Autothrusters coming out and being able to shave off a few points from the HLC with a Mangler cannon or something.

You get a shuttle, transporting a VIP, escorted by two notable Royal Guards Aces. Turr's only got one Mod, but he's got the Title so he gets the red ship!

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Darth Vader (3)

Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Targeting Computer (2)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

Turr Phennir (25)
Push the Limit (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

Total: 99

How about:

Shuttle + Gunner + EU + FCS

3x RGP

Maybe you want some spice:

Shuttle + Vader

Fel + PtL + TC

Jax + Opportunist + TC

AP

use Fel and the shuttle to soften up a target, Jax to kill them, and the AP to block.

I like the cut of your jib. Good idea. I might try it too!

Here's what I'll try next time I play....

Omnicron Group Pilot

-Sensor Jammer

-Ion Cannon

-Rebel Captive

-Fleet Officer

-Engine Upgrade

Royal Guard Interceptor

-RGT

-PTL

-Shield Upgrade

-Autothrusters (or advanced Targetting computer if you're not on vassal or need the card for tabletop...not bad)

Royal Guard Interceptor

-RGT

-PTL

-Shield Upgrade

-Autothrusters

=100pts.

Throw the tanky cow at the enemy daring him to shoot at it. Expending his focus, stressing a ship and possibly getting ionised after being stressed.

Meanwhile your Interceptors do intercepty stuff. Better even now with the autothrusters in this turret rife atmosphere. Fleet officer makes them even tankier. If you arc dodge correctly you will have more reliable dodging with two focus and an evade on the fighters.

I might give it a shot.

If you plan on using Fleet Officer, it might be a good idea to swap the Sensor Jammer for Advanced Sensors. You'll be able to decide either before moving or after moving whether you want to use the Officer, so you can make sure the other ships are always within range. And if you activate the Officer before moving, you can just perform a green maneuver to immediately remove the stress, which will make your next turn's movement much less predictable.

Upon learning of an Imperial commander and his loyal wingmen wishing to defect, Vader wants to respond personally. A trip to the Outer Rim is dangerous for anyone, regardless if they are Sith, Jedi or the most treacherous and cunning of Bounty Hunters. His escort includes the Baron himself along with two other Royal Guard Elites.

Omicron Group Pilot (21)

Darth Vader (3)

Fire Control System (2)

Soontir Fel (27)

Push the Limit (3)

Royal Guard Pilot (22) x2

Total: 100

Probably not the most competitive list, but it'd be fun for the aesthetic feel. Plus the INTs can be deadly up close. Get them in range 1 (and preferably out of arc) to soften up the ship, then rely on OGP's 3 dice + Vader (if necessary) to clean up the remains. Assuming the Baron and his protege are up close and the shuttle is hanging back, that can be 15 dice to deal with in one turn.

When Autothrusters are introduced, try this:

The same thing is happening with people wanting to defect, but in the interest of points for Vader's escort, the Baron decided he's too cool for all that and let someone else take his space.

Omicron Group Pilot (21)

Darth Vader (3)

Fire Control System (2)

Tactician (2)

Royal Guard Pilot (22) x 3

Autothrusters (2)

Total: 100

Vader, again, would really be used to finish a ship if absolutely necessary. FCS on the shuttle ensures good re-rolls and maybe allows a focus / stall maneuver if a ship refuses to go down since it'll already have a TL. Meanwhile, Tactician dealing stress affords the RGPs the chance to take advantage of their maneuverability.

I was playing around with the idea of

Omicron group pilot

ion cannon

sensor jammer

engine upgrade

Rebel captive

Darth Vader

Royal guard pilot

Ruthlesness

stealth device

Royal guard title

hull upgrade

Royal guard pilot

Ruthlesness

stealth device

Royal guard title

hull upgrade

Some fun lists posted so far. Im tempted to try them all out.

Sorry my friend, ATC is Advanced only.. so not an option, and its a Systems upgrade as well.

Did this as a little scenario at 100 puts with a friend. I only wanted to fly 2 Interceptors as part of the scenario so I took 2 RG with PTL and a shield upgrade if I remember correctly. I then sank all the rest of the points into the basic shuttle with gunner, Vader etc.

I told my friend that intel had notified the rebels that Vader was in transit near a asteroid field and he should deploy snub fighters to go get him. he came with a 3 ship x-wing build that included Wedge and Luke at least.

It was a fun battle with Wedge going almost straight away followed by the over upgraded shuttle. The remainder of the battle was a dance with a rebel victory with both x wings only having 1 hull left and 1 of these a singe shield as well (R2D2).

Minimal success on Vassal but thematically fun to fly:

Colonel Jendon

Heavy Laser Cannon

Fleet Officer (He is the person you are escorting)

Weapons Engineer (Death Star isn't going to build itself!)

2 x Royal Guard Interceptor
Push the Limit
Royal Guard Title
Stealth Device
Autothrusters

I play Rebel only. That being said, I have been eyeing those Royal Guard Ties and the Imperial shuttle.......I could hop the fence to play them perhaps....

I hope it's a viable team.

Just a warning. If you have never played with the shuttle just know she takes a bit to get used to. It feels like trying to pilot the heaviest thing imaginable....but with engine upgrade that helps that . Still a fun ship tho

Loving the thematic builds and scenario play in this thread.

This forum needs more of that, not more 'this is rubbish' or 'mend this' threads :)

Simplest solution would be 3 RG PTL squints and a doom shuttle.

Ive also enjoyed running 2 RG PTL squints, one EU shuttle and one Doom shuttle. The decoy shuttle a given for a leader worried about terrorist attack..

I have gone 5-1 with the below. Its pretty effective and surprisingly tanky. I may consider redesigning it now that auto thrusters are a thing.

My philosophy is that unless the pilot has an ability that interacts with stress, its best not to use PTL. It opens up the dial so much and people are not use to flying against interceptors that use the entire dial. Plus, it gives you some insurance against the increasingly more common ion and stress builds.

Determination generally triggers once a game with 2 ships with 3 agility and 4 hull. I have seen it go off twice once.

OGP

Gunner

FCS

EU

RGP X2

Hull Upgrade

Determination

Dark Curse

I've had some good success with this list:

Omicron Group Pilot

-Vader

Soontir Fel

-PTL

-Shield Upgrade

-Hull Upgrade

Carnor Jax

-PTL

-Shield Upgrade

-Hull Upgrade

I just whipped this up in a squad builder, but my goal was far more about thematic and narrative elements than real playability.

Royal Guard Pilot [32 points total]

Predator

Royal Guard TIE

Hull Upgrade

Shield Upgrade

Royal Guard Pilot [32 points total]

Predator

Royal Guard TIE

Hull Upgrade

Shield Upgrade

Omicron Group Pilot [35 points total]

Fire-Control System

Rebel Captive

Gunner

Engine Upgrade

99 points all told. The narrative would be that the Empire has gotten their hands on a high-value Rebel operative with some crucial intelligence. They've tasked a pair of upgraded TIE Interceptors flown by Palpatine's elite Royal Guard with ensuring that the shuttle makes it to its destination: a Star Dreadnaught command ship with a specialist interrogation suite and highly trained personnel who should be able to break the operative before the Rebels can evacuate any compromised bases or exfiltrate any soon-to-be-revealed agents.

The Rebels, of course, have heard about this from their Bothans, many of whom died to get them this information. They need to rescue, or if that's not possible, to kill the operative before the Empire can question him.

In the event that you encounter any Scum, obviously they want to grab the operative for themselves, either to sell him back to the Rebels, to flip him back to the Empire for a bounty, or to question him themselves so that they can exploit any information he has for fun and for profit.
