Question about command tokens & pilot tokens

By R22, in Star Wars: Armada

So a ship has the following stats lets say:

3 - Command

3 - Squadron

2 Engineering

This means they have to have 3 commands set in dials, i.e., 3 dials, at any given time, can activate up to 3 squadrons with a single squadron command, and ... I have no idea what to do with the engineering values.

--

Elite pilots get two tokens, just like capital ships do. On the first turn of the game do these tokens stand ready? Or do they have to be generated somehow?

--

Does spending a token count towards using a command/squadron/engineering action? Or are they essentially a separate mechanic that accompanies the command system?

--

Regardless of your squadron command value, do you always get to activate all your squadrons in some form or another? As in you have 5 squadrons and a squadron command value of 1. You activate 1 to move and attack. Then during the squadron phase you get to activate 2 squadrons at a time, alternating with the other player. So you get to activate the other 4. There's never a turn or low enough squadron command value that would make it so that you have squadrons left idle, right?

OKay from what I have read and re-read I think it gos like this

Command-Number of dials you have in your stack also the number of commands you can bank.

Squadron-I think your right on this one

Engineering-Is how many points you can put back into say shields or repairing your systems.

If you look under their preview about the command dial I think it has the answers your looking for.

Dial: Gain a number of engineering points equal to your ship’s engineering value. You may then spend these points to repair your ship:

1 point – Move one shield from one of your ship’s hull zones to another hull zone.

2 points – Recover one shield in any one hull zone.

3 points – Discard any one damage card

Token: Gain a number of engineering points equal to half your ship’s engineering value, rounded up. These may be spent as above.

Ah, okay so engineering makes more sense now.

So do you pocket a command by not activating it when revealed during the command phase and thereby gain a token?

In the Ship Phase that follows, you and your opponent take turns activating your ships. When you activate a ship, you reveal the top of its command stack, turn the dial faceup and resolve its command or spend the command to gain a matching token. Each command provides a different type of benefit, which we will address in more detail below. For now, it’s just important to note that after you assign commands to your ships in the Command Phase, you reveal one command per ship in the Ship Phase.

But elite squadron tokens are simply given?

You get tokens by "banking" the command basically.

By which I mean....say you reveal a "Repair" command on your dial. You may EITHER immediately repair X amount as noted above, OR bak a repair token for use later on whenever you like,l but at a lesser effect.

You can do this with all commands, so it allows you to save them for when you need them, but you get less benefit.

Thanks. Is there a limit to the number you can save, one of each I assume?

And these are different from the green defense tokens, yes? Like redirect and brace tokens? Those are just given and don't need to be banked or generated? But if you use one and then use it a second time in the same round once exhausted, you burn it for the rest of the game?

Not sure on limits tbh.

They are indeed different from the defence tokens. Those are just yours each turn, unless you burn one as you say.

Yes there is a limit from what I read. I you bank one of each command up to your command total.

So lets say I have a Victory with Command 3

I can bank 1 Nav, 1 squadron, 1 Repair

Extropia is right in that they are diffrent from defense tokens and you have the right idea on how they work.

This is gonna be more of a thinking mans game of chess then I thought lol

Could you bank, say, 3 squadron or navigation commands?

Nope it says you can only bank 1 of each.
