How much later will Wave 1 come out after the core set?

By R22, in Star Wars: Armada

So wave 1 is coming out after the core set is released. I read it somewhere, forget the source at the moment but it was trustworthy, and on the upcoming page all the wave 1 expansions are listed as 'in development.' The core set is 'at the factory.' How much later do people think the expansions will come out? Core still seems exciting but I really want to run a bigger match than a VSD vs. a CR90 & Neb-B. Buying two of the cores seems meh and I'd rather save the money for the expansions.

I read somewhere on the site that the first wave will release at the same time as the Core Set

In the Wave 1 announcement article they say it will come out in Q1 of 2015 at the same time as the core set. That means it will come out in the same quarter but not necessarily the same time. Especially since the expansions are still in development.

I heard the same as cdlong. "At the same time" would at least imply to me that they will release the same day. The only time I've heard otherwise was a forum member talked to someone over at Miniature Market and was told they would release at separate times, but that's at least third-hand info at this point :)

I imagine that it will be 'roughly' the same time. I just hope they don't retard the release of the Core to wait for Wave 1.

I reckon roughly the same time, maybe a month later at most. But they will REALLY want it out at the same time so that people "buy in" deeper initially.

This increases the odds of quickly making long-term customers.....people not only have more ships and therefore less risk of losing interest, but they have a higher financial investment which makes them reluctant to immediately put the game aside.

Business economics. Get them hooked hard and early ;)

Unless plans change Wave 1 will not be shipping at the same time as the core set. Many retailers and online stores have confirmed this.

From the Assemble the Fleet article:

"As you grow your collection with new expansions, their ships, upgrades, and commanders all offer you new options for fleet-building. Already, in our announcement of the first wave of Armada expansions, we’ve had an early look at the Gladiator-class Star Destroyer, the Assault Frigate Mark II, and the other starships that will arrive to retailers at the same time as the Core Set. Each comes with its own strengths, so that you can build the fleet that best suits your tactics."

I guess that settles that! I know the status page shows the Core Set as at the printer and the expansions as in development, but if you look at the descriptions for those statuses it explains how sets that are waiting for components can take much longer in the production stage than basic things like expansions. Maybe that makes up for the discrepancy? After all the core sets will be waiting for cards, dice, range rulers, models, etc. while the expansions will only need the model, cards, and packaging. By the time all that is done I would think they would all be on the same boat. Except mine that is, they should just Next Day Air mine since it's for me, right? ;)

As much as I want to belive that I'm gonna take a wait and see token. FFG does try it's best to do what it says but Murphey is a beast and he has a way of making even the best layed plans go into the toliet.

It won't bother me either way. I'm just looking for the core to arrive, initially. It'll take a little figuring out, which will keep me busy/happy for a bit.

Same here really. I'd loev Wave 1 to hit at the same time, but its honestly not a huge deal.

Wave 1 will hit retail stores at the same time as the core sets.

I can't confirm this but I seem to remember seeing the Starter set "on the boat" at the upcoming section of the FFG website and the expansion pacts still in production. This led me to the same worry as had been expressed here, but it has since been moved back from "on the boat" so "in production" with the rest of wave 1 stuff.

Wave 1 isn't even "printing" yet though, it's still showing as "in development" :(

In FFG's article it states that the two will be made available at the same time. I'm to the point of ignoring the production website.

With excaption of the fighter expansion packs, wouldn't it stand to reason that all the molds and whatnot are going to be created with the core starter box? Should be a much reduced "turn around time" regarding the expansions than the core game itself. I think they even say something to that effect on the updates page.

To answer the OP: I'm hoping 0 days.

@InvisibleCalm: Assault Frigate & Gladiator are also not included in Core, so there are 3 Expansions that need 'new' models after the Core. But based on various interviews and stuff it seems FF wants to release them all at the same time, but who knows if they actually will.

True, I forgot about thouse. And I suppose the extra upgrade cards not included in the Core will also need to be printed. But all-in-all, a much smaller endeavor compared to the entire core box.

Im so glad i forgot Bout this game for four months, just in time before release. All this waiting is killing me...

That said im fairly certain its ffgs intent to release the core plus expansions same day. Think of it from a marketing standpoint.

Haha, when I was little and didn't have anything in particular I wanted to spend money on I'd hide it so that future-me could stumble on it and have a nice day. I specifically remember hiding $20 in the box for the TIE Fighter PC game. When I found it I felt like I had time traveled.
