How does this game compare to the old Star Wars card game?
Thinking about starting...
It sacrifices some of the thematic elements for the sake of good gameplay - for example, you have the somewhat thematic awkwardness of Yoda defending an engagement against the Devastator, but at the same time, that means a Vehicle deck and a Character deck can have meaningful interaction.
The various affiliations are very thematic, however. The Sith are manipulative and controlling, the Jedi mirroring that, the Imperial Navy is about bombastic assaults, while the Rebel Alliance has synergies making it more than the sum of its parts, Scum and Villainy is in it for the credits (resources), and the Smugglers and Spies always have a trick up their sleeves.
Short version - if you're looking for something that plays like the old Decipher CCG, this is not the game you are looking for. If, however, you're looking for a game that makes you feel the same way it did, that you're waging epic battles in a galaxy far, far away, and are open to a new game to scratch that itch, this is a great game to get into.
Thanks for taking the time to write that up! I think I'll atleast pick up the Core set and give it a shot!
On that note you can listen to any number of great podcasts out there about the game. One in particular is Star Wars: TCG! Haha

As it turns out, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Joking aside, yeah, this is a very fun and helpful community.
Welcome to the game. As a convert from the Decipher game, I readily enjoy this one.
You wouldn't happen to live in MN would you?
