Arcane Bolt and Exploding Rune

By kertain2, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Howdy folks,

I googled this but did not find a specific answer to my question.

One of the Heros has Arcane Bolt and purchased Exploding Rune.

Does this take one actions to trigger or two?

The reason I am on the fence is that the Exploding Rune skills says "Perform an attack with a Rune Weapon" and then "The attack gains blast"

Seems to me that could be "read" in two way:

1) That skill makes the attack with the rune weapon and stacks Blast (using 1 action total)

-or-

2)First you make an attack (action 1) and then activate Exploding rune (action 2) to make it have blast.

I ruled on the side of the Hero in the last game (let him use it for one action each attack) but it was very powerful in the tight dungeon we were in. Curious to see what you folks think.

Thanks!

The skill Exploding Rune requires an action to use and one fatigue. It allows you to perform an attack with a weapon that has the Rune descriptor, that attack gains blast.

Since the card does not state "exhaust this card" this means it can be used for both of the hero's actions. but the fatigue cost must be paid each time.

As the OL, make sure you are aware of how blast operates as it is hard to catch large creatures ina blast if they are positioned properly.

Hello,

Exploding rune works as you played it,

The action says to make an attack, that attack has blast.

If it was worded similar to this, 'action: the next attack you make has blast'. That would work as your second scenario suggested.

Its a wonderful skill for runemasters to get early as it helps you deal with mobs so much more easily.

Thank you very much, the way you both explained it makes sense.
