As Tie Pilot lovingly and brilliantly explains in his "X-Wing Under Fire" thread, the X-Wing Generics are being crowded out of their original purpose by the B-Wing and the fixed Y-Wing.
One of the more popular fixes for the X-Wing is the "RecSpecMech", which doubles the effectiveness of your Focus action.
The problem is that this boosts the X-Wing's defense moderately, but greatly enhances the Y-Wings offense.
So: What does the X offer that the B and the Y do not?
- Against the B, it has +1 agility, +1 Mech slot, -1 point, better options at 3 speed, and substantially less red on the dial.
- Against the Y, it has +1 agility, +1 primary attack, better average damage per attack, more green maneuvers, and less red on the dial.
- Against both, it is an X-Wing, and the fix could be a Title or X-Wing only mod. This is the easy way out, but requires a 4th x-wing release.
If a fix is to benefit the X more than its 21-25 point competitors, it needs to fit this space.
That being said, the only places the X can feasibly be fixed are through Astromech and X-Specific Title/Mods, as the non-specific ones get into massed balancing issues. Therefore, we only need concentrate on the Y-Wing's contrast, while also making sure it is not broken on Corran Horn. As the other E-Wings could also use a boost, we'll let them be ancillary beneficiaries ![]()
Notably, the Y-Wing's double-tap only occurs at range 1-2 at best, so anything beyond that is fair game.
Therefore, the X-Fix should be a Generic Astromech costing fewer than 4 points concerning one or more of the following:
A Primary Weapon Attack
An Attack at Range 3 or more
Agility Dice in a way that scales up with Agility Value
Speed 3 maneuvers, without shifting color
Green maneuvers
