Post Your Epic Lists!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

I feel like we don't talk about Epic as a format as much, so I thought I'd start a thread where we can all share and discuss our Epic lists.

Here's mine:

I like to use the GR as a bus that gets dangerous when the enemies close in. My initial strategy is to fly my ships relatively close together in order to benefit from Biggs and Wedge, with the exception of the A-Wings. Wes is armed with Veteran Instincts so that the rest of the formation can benefit from his ability while Wedge can give initiative to the Biggs, Tarn or the B-Wings. I built Luke out thematically and I tricked out my Green Squadron Pilots with my favorite setup for them to be used as high-octane harassers/blockers.

I tend to shy away from turreted ships like the Outrider and Falcon in these kinds of games because I feel like they're overused in the smaller matches and not nearly as useful in Epic. If you find yourself dumping more points into a flying donut or fat Falcon than you are your support ship, then you may as well spare the points for a support ship and fly that turreted ship as your centerpiece.

Also, the popularity of turreted ships in standard games would make Epic rather dull for me as well, which is why I was hesitant to tack on Biggs, but the value he provides is essential to the squadron's survivability.

I'm excited to see everyone else's lists!

GR-75 Medium Transport (30)

Toryn Farr (6)

Ionization Reactor (4)

Engine Booster (3)

Bright Hope (5)

Nera Dantels (26)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Fire-Control System (2)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Flechette Torpedoes (2)

Keyan Farlander (29)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Advanced Sensors (3)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Roark Garnet (19)

Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Wedge Antilles (29)

Push the Limit (3)

R2-D2 (4)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Lieutenant Blount (17)

Deadeye (1)

Assault Missiles (5)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

R4-D6 (1)

Total: 299

The transport's main use is to Toryn Far ships and maybe to nudge Blount to get his Assault Missiles off with even more help (a TL, but it's not necessary due to Deadeye) once all small and large ships have moved, using a coordinate action. The swarm tactics adjust to melt targets before they have a chance to shoot. Either 3 HLCs at ps12, or a random ship at ps12, 2 at ps7 and 2 at ps5, adaptable to situations.

I ran this, or something very close to it, at our end-of-year epic game at my FLGS. It split reasonably well into two sides; one player took the TIE swarm and Defenders against the starfighter escort while I sent the big ships against Dash and a corvette. 299 points in total.

Were I to do this again, I'd drop Gunner from the shuttle or deploy it against the starfighters. When shooting at Dash and capital ships, it's almost impossible to miss with an HLC. ST-321 is stupidly powerful with Vessery in an epic game. And of course there will soon be a really good reason to fit Maarek Stele in there.

As for the Anti-Pursuit Lasers, they actually paid off in grand style. I flew the doomshuttle directly into the corvette's path with 1 HP left. The corvette had no choice but to run it over for what turned out to be two more damage (large ship collision plus APL).

Howlrunner (TIE Fighter)

  • Swarm Tactics

Backstabber (TIE Fighter)

Academy Pilot (TIE Fighter) x4

Rexler Brath (TIE Defender)

  • Heavy Laser Cannon
  • Predator

Colonel Vessery (TIE Defender)

  • Heavy Laser Cannon
  • Veteran Instincts

Colonel Jendon (Lambda-class Shuttle)

  • Heavy Laser Cannon
  • Fire-Control System
  • Weapons Engineer
  • Gunner
  • ST-321
  • Engine Upgrade

Omicron Group Pilot (Lambda-class Shuttle)

  • Darth Vader
  • Anti-Pursuit Lasers

Krassis Trelix (Firespray-31)

  • Heavy Laser Cannon
  • Proton Bombs
  • Intelligence Agent

The B's and Z's approach in formation and get a hwk assigned to them. Blue squadron gets Roark and does some ghost busting, while Grey squadron gets Jan and goes big game hunting. The A's try to get behind enemy lines and disrupt them as much as possible.

Park Kagi next to that bomber squadron, fly them in tight formation and point them at anything you want dead.

Only gotten in a handful of epic games so far, but looking to try out this 200pts team epic sometime soon

200pts

Wes w/ veteran instincts, R3-A2 & flechette torpedo

Wedge w/ predator, R5-P9 & ion torpedo

Luke w/ draw their fire & R2-D2

Porkins w/ opportunist & R5-D8

Garven w/ wingman & R2-D6

Biggs w/ R2-F2 & experimental interface

Ok so the Epic list I came up with I went for a thematic list. I used all the named X-wings.

Rogue Squadron

Wedge Antiles (29)

R5-P9 (3)

Predator (3)

Shield Upgrade (4)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Luke Skywalker (28)

R2-D2 (4)

Wingman (2)

Shield Upgrade (4)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Jek Porkins (26)

R5-D8 (3)

Push the Limit (3)

Experimental Interface (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Garven Dreis (26)

R5 Astromech (1)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Tarn Mison (23)

R7 Astromech (2)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

R2-F2 (3)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Wes Janson (29)

R7-T1 (3)

Wingman (3)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Hobbie Klivian (25)

R3-A2 (2)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Runs at 300 points. I know an 8 ship list for epic is not ideal, but its really really fun to play and actually has some good synergy. ( Bonus points if you can get this Porkins build to survive an epic battle.) I know all these guys didn't fly in rogue squadron technically, being dead before it was formed and all, but they all flew in red squadron, so thats close enough for me.

Here's two rebel squadrons that I currently enjoy. I've played and tweaked them a few times and welcome any suggestions.

In the first list I attempt to incorporate the Blockade Runner as competitively as it will allow. It's an expensive ship even without upgrades and it can easily become a points sink. I constantly see players flying around with a bloated 150+ point CR-90 leaving them with only a few of escorts. Mine are usually around 120 points max.

CR-90 Corvette (fore) + WED-15 Repair Droid + Quad Laser Cannons + Quad Laser Cannons + Tibanna Gas Supplies

CR-90 Corvette (aft) Single Turbo Lasers + Engineering Team

Roark Garnet + Ion Cannon Turret + Chewbacca + Shield Upgrade

Dash Rendar + Push The Limit + Heavy Laser Cannon + Kyle Katarn + Outrider + Engine Upgrade

6x Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

total points: 300

My second list utilizes two transports. One of them jams enemy ships and the other one slices them. The transport that doesn't slice can spend its extra energy on Comms Booster or charging up its Ionization Reactor. It's a lot of fun jamming ships and slicing them in the same turn.

GR-75 Medium Transport + Slicer Tools + Tibanna Gas Supplies + Quantum Storm

GR-75 Medium Transport + Frequency Jammer + Comms Booster + Ionization Reactor + Dutyfree

Chewbacca + Predator + Gunner + C3PO + Millennium Falcon + Engine Upgrade

Wedge Antilles + Predator

Etahn A'Baht + Push The Limit + R2 Astromech

Lieutenant Blount + Assault Missiles

4x Tala Squadron Pilot

Bandit Squadron Pilot

total points: 300

Insufficient Funds at the moment but:

Patrol Leader — VT-49 Decimator 40 (x6)
Weapons Engineer 3
Intelligence Agent 1
Gunner 5
Tactical Jammer 1

That's an even 300pts. Hopefully the Raider will be released before I collect 6 Decimators... that way 2-3 Decimators in cost; points and funds; will become a Raider.

Who needs to fly when you can just put 6 floating dice chuckers in the middle of the field?

This would probably be a headache of a list to fly and to fly against (as well as an excuse to put 8 E-Wings on the table. But, then again, who is mentally unstable enough to buy 8 E-Wings? Not me... Don't look at me like that. Maybe I did. This is all in theory after all...)!

Roark Garnet (19)

Blaster Turret (4)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Nien Nunb (1)

Moldy Crow (3)

Corran Horn (35)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Fire-Control System (2)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Etahn A'baht (32)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Fire-Control System (2)

Blackmoon Squadron Pilot (29)

Fire-Control System (2)

x6

Total: 200 Points

Roark is there to buff Etahn to chain his ability or to a lone Blackmoon who needs to shoot first, Etahn is the team modifier, Corran is built to survive and the confusion among Target Lock tokens from all of the FCS will be infinite.

As of now these are the only archtypes Epic Builds you can make with the highlighted ones coming out soon.

  • Rebel Starfighter Wing (300 points of small and large ships but no huge ships)
  • Rebel 1 huge starship build (CR-90 or Transport) with Starfighter Squadron.
  • Two huge Rebel starship build (Transport + CR-90 or another transport) with possible escorting starfighters.
  • Imperial Starfighter Wing (300 points of small and large ships but no huge ships)
  • Imperial Solo Raider with Starfighter Squadron
  • Scum & Villainy Starfighter Wing (300 points of small and large ships but no huge ships)

Now this is using a standard epic format with 5 epic points (transport = 2, CR-90 = 3 which is likely going to be the same for the raider) with 300 point limit. With tournament section in competitive epic rules the limit is reduced to 3 epic points and 200 standard points so then it becomes either you have a single huge ship in your squadron or you don't.
