Decimator the ultimate ship

By Greedyfly, in X-Wing

I got my first decimator for Christmas and I have to say I love the ship. I also this the ship is also much like the lambda in that I think the ship will take a while to find its feet.

What I mean by this is that there are so many ways to load out a decimator and the points sink that they are means you have a clear plan on how you want to use them.

Now some options seam like obvious choices but I will be the first to admit that you are trying to juggle damage output with somewhat damage mitigation with points spent plus what your going to run as the rest of your fleet.

I think this is what makes the decimator the ultimate ship. The cost is high enough that you have to find the right balance and the options are all about the crew and EPT to best complement the rest of your fleet. No obvious auto include choices here.

And your opinions are welcome

one auto include for me is Ysanne!! everything else IS build to suit...however after playing several games with the Deci its seems like it ALWAYS attracts lots of fire particularly if its the ONLY one on the board.. and rightfully so, so i tend to go for tanky builds or duel deci builds.

now FFG just needs to amend the rules and allow TWO Ysannes as she did have a clone!!! just saying....

Oicunn SMASH!

Whoops! Posted in the wrong thread! Sorry.

Not to me, I go for full damage output every time. Then I spend any leftover points on Ysanne and Rebel Captive (not necessarily in that order).

Ysanne and rebel captives are practically auto- include. I would switch between Mara and gunner depending on my strategy. EPT's and everything else though is up in the air

RAC+predator+EU. Faster than an interceptor

It really isn't as versatile as you make out, and to be honest, it is so easy to take down that all that extra thought into coming up with strategic builds may not be worth it in the end. It is definitely a good ship, but certainly not the ultimate.

In our experience the decimator is crap. It gets off maybe 2-3 shots and then goes down. That 0 agility and the huge hull/shield ratio makes it way too vulnerable to crits, so that after the first round of firing it's usually already carrying 1 or 2 crits.

Still haven't figured out how to fly it I guess.

I like oicunn ysane moff jerod jerod mara jade ruthless ness anti pursuit lasers and the title card

The thing I love most is just saying the name. Inevitably, my voice dips an octave and I turn into the lead singer of Rammstein.

DECIMATORRRRRRRR

I'd think Ysanne and Engine Upgrade are kind of auto-includes, both help mitigate the weakness of 0 Agility.

Just to provide an alternative view, I see the Decimator as a pretty dull, fly around in circles, killjoy.

Still trying various builds but so far not impressed.

Without the hard 1 manouver the decimator ain't so nimble as the YTs and so I can see how the flying in circles starts to happen. I haven't flowen kenkirk yet so both the other pilots get a buff out of closing the distance with the enemy so flying in circles don't help there.

While its true the decimator could be even more versatile, I mean a ship that size should have a censor slot! But 3 crew alone I can go on and on about different types of combos and they do work against certain types of list. But I do think there are some hidden Jess yet to be discovered and here is my favourite point of all with the new crew coming from the imperial raider oh boy :) I so wonder what that emperor card does

Just got mine for Christmas. Have so far flown it once, Oicon Mara, captive and Ysanne. I had the upgrade that lets me obstruct and the title. Following behind was Krasis and a HLC with tactician. Won against Han and two A wings. It is a good ship. I am looking forward to more fun with it.

As an aside, ramming was easier when I had it up on a huge ship peg and base. That way base to base contact neve caused model to model contact. "Ramming speed!"

That is AWESOME!!! I made a list I call driving in Texas that is pretty much like yours. I haven't had a chance to try it because I've been working but I'm glad ot hear it has a chance of doing some dmg.

Placed 6 out of 12 in my first tourney w the following:

Kenkirk

Ysanne

Captive

Jerjerrod

Lone wolf

3x bsp w vi

Worked well...even when all my ties were one shorted early in 2 games

I tried the Decimator for the first time last weekend, in my first X-wing game. Basic ship with only Ysanne added, and my teammate ran 4 T.I.E. fighters, versus 2 X-Wings and 3 Z-95s with various upgrades. The X-Wings concentrated on the Decimator and the Z-95s engaged the T.I.E.s until the TI.E.s destroyed them all for the loss of 2 ships.

Meanwhile the Decimator continued to soak up hits and occupy the X-Wings, destroying one of them. In the last 2 turns the surviving T.I.E.s arrived to assist and the game ended with the Decimator on its last hull point.

I think it performed as it's supposed to - acted as a fire magnet keeping the best rebel ships occupied too long, as the Rebel player admitted after the game. I'd expected it to die in each of the last 3 turns but it squeaked through. I don't think I'd ever run two, even with maximum upgrades, though I see some players have.

At first I tho ysanne was an auto take but in some of my games she only provided me with 2 evades before I went down and in some games I have been stressed from crits or stress causing agents and she didn't get to activate. So I found her to be a balancing act that those 4 points and crew slot could be better used for damage output or fleet control

I called mine Krasis and the Crasher. Interestingly after the initial shots on the Deci from Han, stripped three shields, my opponent stopped shooting the Deci entirely to focus on my Firespray. I got through the fight with both ships still alive, but Krasis was pretty mauled. I did save it some hits by obstructing shots with the Deci. Next time I will try expose and a gunner.

Love the ship!

:D

a kirk build like this or with determination is a tanky type option I have been looking to run next. The problem is that is has limited damage output and limited fleet damage output at least on paper at this stage. But I will try it, I can see that I may have some major problems with the current horny dash build

I fared exceedingly well against my first opponent who ran 3 blues and a wild space fringer with Ion cannon and intel agent...20+ shields was nothing to shake a stick at...the ties go up one side and the deci starts nearby but angled so by turn 2 or 3 hes within lone wolf range..I have considered determination but have no idea what to do w the extra point...I need no PS bid...my entire list is PS 6 so they at least move and shoot together and often my opponents have wasted their PS bid points against me...if you concentrate your fire on single targets it works pretty well. use the TIEs to soften the target and the deci to finish it off, if it dies to the TIEs the deci has a shot at something else. And the captive makes them not want to shoot your deci...furthering the chance that lone wolf will kick in.
