Oicunn overlapping manouver

By xvc, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hmmm

I'd love to have clarification of that rule by FFG - since page 8 of FAQ 2.2 states:

"touching multiple ships

A ship can end its maneuver touching multiple ships. If a ship overlaps

two ships, and its own base ends its maneuver touching both ships it has

overlapped"

This is how it works

In your above image you overlap 2 ships.

Oicunn ability says nothing about overlapping.

So now you slide back until your no longer overlapping. I'd say from the pic above, you'd be touching the right ship, so now oicunn ability will happen and the right ship will tame a dmg

I've dmg two ships using his ability but not like pictured above.

Oicunn is in position.

Wedge moved and crashes and then a bwing moves and crashes. Both now touching oicunn. He moved but was unable to fit in so oicunn just stayed where he was at dealing a dmg to each.

In order to move and ram two ships at once it's quite hard. Both ships would have to be both at the right angle and distance from oicunn.

Seeing as slight bumps and twists happen by even letting your hands off the ships you may collide into one and just a hair away from the other

Best way to pull it off is have two ships move into you, and then you move in a way where you can't fit in and stay put.

It can be considered touching two ships if it overlaps, then when it is moved back along the base until it is touching. If it is touching the two bases at this time, THEN it is considered touching

Not from overlapping

Common mistakes with Occiun.

  • Dealing damage to every enemy ship that touches him. The ability states after Occiun's maneuver not at the end of every other ships maneuver. If he runs into a ship he damages that ship. If a ship runs into him it is not damage unless something like APL is present but you still have to roll.
  • Dealing damage to every ship the base and/or the maneuver template touches or overlaps. Overlapping ships are different from overlapping obstacles. If there is an overlap you have to move the ship back along the maneuver to where there is no longer an overlap but the bases remain touching. The maneuver template does not count to overlapping ships Then you deal damage to enemy ships that you are touching after the final position. It is not impossible to touch more than 1 enemy ship after a maneuver but it is a little bit trickier.
  • Continuing to move Occiun after an overlap. Even if Ociuns destroys the ships last hull with an overlap he still overlaps the ship. The enemy ship is not destroyed unitl you move Ociun back to where there is no longer an overlap but remains touching the ship. Then you deal the last damage and remove the ship. You have to keep him where he last touched the ship he dosn't move the rest of the movement template.
  • Performing normal actions after an overlap destroys a ship. Also you cannot perform your normal action in the action phase, not without an ability or an upgrade card like dauntless (and you must stress yourself to use it). Even if the ship causing the overlap is no longer in play the overlap effect remains for that ship for the remainder of the phase.
I hope this clears up alot of the common myths about Occiun. He is good but not that good.

The rules for overlapping another ship state that you have to skip your Perform Action step. That's why you don't get an action.

I like this explanation of Oiccunn, but can someone explain why if the ship is destroyed you cant take a regular action?

Because your ship still overlapped another ship's base at what would have been its normal new position. Skipping the Perform Action step is one of the two consequences of that.
