It'd be cool to get it at 3/1/3/1, dial of the interceptor and action bar of the advanced.
Worst thing about the new TIE Ad fixes

Just ignore him
Unless this game is ending this coming year, the Avenger will be produced at some point. It's one of the few ships everyone knows and is a simple design to produce. I think of it as an Interceptor with a missile and 2 shields. Not sure it needs a cannon. 20+ points.
Given the poor state of missiles it should not just be an interceptor with missiles. It needs its own design space to truly be a fun ship.
I don't think I've heard the term "design space" until I've joined the FFG forum.
When I googled "design space", the results always used it as a part of a larger term. Like "design space stations."
When I googled "design space definition", this is what I got:
Definition of Design Space. Design Space is: – the multidimensional combination and interaction of input variables (e.g. material attributes) and process parameters that have been demonstrated to provide assurance of quality. ICH Q8(R2) (Step 4, August 2009), “Pharmaceutical Development”, page 7. 2
So... What is it?
So this is a little premature, but I have been Playtesting house rules for the Avenger and so far it has been balanced and flies very uniquely. I have cards but can't upload on my phone...
Stats:
Attack 3
Evade 3
Hull 2
Shields 3
Actions:
Target lock
Focus
Barrel Roll
Evade
Upgrades:
Missile
Beam upgrade
Dial:
Straight 2 through 5 green
Sharps 1 red, 2 white, 3 white
Banks 1 red, 2 white, 3 green
K turn 5 red
S turn 3, left and right, red
Pilots:
Alpha Squadron PS 1, 24 points
Avenger Squadron PS 4, EPT, 27 points
E.C. Nerwal PS 6, Unique, EPT, 29 points, pilot ability-You may perform a boost after completion of a red manoeuvre
Maarek Stele PS 8, Unique, EPT, 31 points, pilot qbility-currently the same as he has now, but I want to change it.
I still need to play more, and I'm still finalizing rules for the beam upgrade, but I can put up cards later if people are interested!

Look strangely too close to Tie Interceptors though.Bomber-style panels are prettier than rear-split panels, though?

Well that card is a trip down memory lane. ^__^
Oh how I wish that game still existed(outside of printable online cards)! The first expansion pack I purchased had a foil Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight!
As much as I loved having the game - playing it was simply not very enjoyable. It was a cash grab with enormous balance issues.
I trust FFG, not Decipher.
I'd agree, the game had some really cool aspects, but man... the flaws. Even beyond the balance issues, and chase rares and such, the system itself made cheating so easy for folks to do, and difficult to detect that it was absurdly rampant.
That said, I do wish the FFG card game had a few more nuts and bolts. Don't get me wrong, I love the Star Wars LCG, and I'd be all in if anyone played it in Seattle, but it'd be nice to have something a little more in depth, as well.
Nice!
I'm curious about YOUR Beam Weapons ^^
psst...still looks like the baby of an advanced and interceptor who got squashed...
I have no allegiance to this ship and can think of a lot of other tie variants that would both look more distinct and be less like existing ships. This one has never done it for me and without major mechanics additions, would point out and play very similar to existing ships.

You have to remember, it was among the first wave of CCGs. There was rules bloat, but when the game around the time of the Death Star II expansion, the game was amazingly fun.
The Avenger is guaranteed to be seen at some point. Why would FFG leave money on the table?
The Avenger was from a video game...
I don't think we will be seeing that many new ships for Episode VII. Besides, we will see at least one wave before the movie merchandise starts hitting.
Thanks! Still need to test our ideas out for the beam. I'm leaning towards a one shot upgrade that reduces a targets agility to zero when you make an attack and then applies an ion token. Still in the talking about it phase though. Yet to try it out and see if it is a fun upgrade.
The ship flies like nothing else! It's super fast and whips around, but can't knife fight. I really feels unique. For arc dodging and knife fighting the Intercepter is still superior.

So far all we've seen is updated x-wings and ties that mostly look the same so i agree we'll still be seeing EU ships for a while yet.

So... What is it?
In creative development (like games) I have used it to mean the amount of room to explore game design mechanics. So if the Avenger would have a beam weapon upgrade it would give it a lot of room for interesting mechanics without overlapping or bumping into other ships mechanics (like the Interceptor or the Defender). Thus it needs a space for interesting design work.
So... What is it?
In this case, Design Space is the things a ship/upgrade/pilot/ect... can bring to the game without just being <whatever> +1
For example we have the X-Wing, 3 attack 2 agility, 3 hull, 2 shields, TL, and Focus. They could of made the E-Wing 3 attack, 3 agility, 3 hull and 3 shields, TL and Focus, and cost 2 points more than the X-Wing with a slightly better dial.
So effectively it's just a better version of the X-Wing, but doesn't do anything new or interesting.
Instead they made it different enough from the X-Wing that it's more than the X-Wing +1.
For the Tie Avenger, they need to do something with it that makes it interesting and fun to play, but isn't just Tie Interceptor or Tie Advanced +1.

this would be where S-Turns and Beam Weapons come into play
Maybe for a dial, it would have no 1 maneuvers ... green 2 turns, green 2 banks, green 2 straight ... red 2 S-loops ... white 3 turns, green 3 banks, green 3 straight ... white 4 straight, white 5 straight ... red 4 K-turn.
That's 15 maneuvers (8 green, 4 white, 3 red) in a very different configuration than any other ship.
Edited by DanthraxFirst thought is that removing stress would be real easy. PTL would be the EPT of choice. I would change some greens to whites to make flying a little more challenging.
Edited by All Shields ForwardI'd love the Avenger, but the biggest oversight is the lack of an Assault Gunboat!

Yes, that is correct.
OK, here's my stab at it. This has the high maneuverability of the Interceptor, a little less durability than the Defender or Advanced, and a flexible upgrade bar that that accommodates all it's weapon options. Keep in mind this is based off the Wookieepedia entry and I've never played the game it was in.
Stats : 3/3/3/1
Cost : 22 + PS
Actions : focus, target lock, barrel roll
Upgrades : system, missile, torpedo, bomb
Dial : A-Wing style, with 2 & 4 K-Turns
Title : (TIE Avenger Only), Your upgrade bar gains the [beam Weapon] icon.
You guys do realise that if we do get a tractor beam card it's more likely to be a cannon so the IG-2000 and Defender can use it, right?
TIE Avenger: 3 Attack, 3 Agility, 2 Hull, 4 Shields. Actions are Focus, Target Lock, and Boost. Dial includes red Segnor's Loops at 3, with red 1 hard turns and green banks 2, as well as green straight 2 and 3 (no straight 1 on the dial at all). Upgrades would be System slot and Missile slot.
This would be the Empire's shield tank, where most of their ships are either all or mostly hull. It also gives them access to the Segnor's Loop and another Systems-capable dogfighter. The Boost without Barrel Roll sets it apart from other TIE variants.
Pilots could include one who counts his Segnor's Loop maneuvers as White when he is within Range 1-2 of an enemy ship, as well as a pilot who, immediately at the beginning of the End phase, can spend an unused Focus token to roll an Agility die; on an Evade result he gains one shield, up to the ship's maximum.

I like the dial because while it has 19 options it has a lot of red. That means PtL is less useful on it already differentiating it from the interceptor, but still making is hard to guess what it will do. I would probably switch BR to boost to make it less similar to the Defender, who also likes straight maneuvers.
And for me, that's a good thing. I find many of the Tie variations to be horribly uncreative.

The Tractor Beam creates an interesting design problem. There are ships it should already be on, the Firespray, Shuttle, and Defender, each of which have Cannon slots. On the other hand there's ships with Cannon slots aren't known for having Tractor Beams, the B-Wing, and Scyk. So how do you work it? Just make it a cannon and let a Scyk tractor a Decimator? Or make it a title that adds a Beam Weapon slot, or replaces a cannon slot with it?
