For 18 points you can buy an alpha squadron interceptor with 3 atk, 3 evade, 3 hull and take auto thrusters for 2 points. Of course all of them being ps1 means you are still likely losing one each turn before he even fires.

The Falcon doesn't need to be knocked out of the meta to maintain balance. As long as more options that are introduced that can compete, then we have a happy meta. From what I've seen, I think there are some good options coming.

Vader will get a shot off first at Fat Han. Let's assume he's got a Focus and a TL in the first turn. Afterwards, he will use barrel roll to keep things in his arc. Maarek fires next. First turn just puts the TL on, but C-3PO should be used up. Next turns he can use a Focus, barrel roll, etc. Col V gets to fire with a Focus and his Mauler Cannon, but gets the free TL. It might take the first round to clear out the shields, but each round after that is going to see a lot of crits go through.

We still need the Iggy previews. I am curious about it. It is a ship that I think might be able to do okay. But the dial and 3 other pilots will be key.

If you've only got enough points to stick an EPT on one of the Advanceds, I think I'd stick Predator on Maarek instead of Vader. Maarek's ability only comes into play if you manage to get the crit past defense dice. Vader will be able to Focus+TL or Focus+Evade to help get hits due to his 2 actions per round. Without Predator Maarek won't be able to modify his attack on rounds that he needs to take a TL to fuel ATC and will never be able to take an Evade or Barrel-Roll action if he wants to be able to modify his attacks.

There is three lists that you need to compete against.

Fat falcon

Phantom

And to a much lesser degree swarm

The falcon is the biggest threat. Once you're able to focus fire it down in 3 turns the list breaks.

Phantoms is a bigger issue you either need to fly better which is more skill based then ship based or have a higher pilot skill to beat it and fly better Or take a turret like the falcon.

3 atk 3 ship lists haven't done well vs the fat falcon and friends in the past. Now I like the fact the advanced is more durable however turn 2 at least one of those ships are going down before it fires (my choice is meerek). I'm not sure what you need a mauler cannon on a 3 atk ship (just for range3?) but I'd focus on vadar after meerek is down and hope the falcon is still standing cause it excels at going 1 on 1.

Do other people see many Phantoms out there? I haven't seen many lately. Even at our last 7 person event, there was only one in all the lists.

The Mauler Cannon on Col V. is there for the crit. He'll get a free TL for firing at the big ship. He can Focus for either defense or offense. He turns one hit into a crit. The chances of him getting a lot of hits in with a TL and Focus is pretty nice. Also, at range 3 the defender doesn't get the extra die, but at range 1, you can always fire normal. Maybe better to put Predator on both Vader and Maarek?

I haven't seen a Swarm flown in my local meta for a long time. To me, everyone is taking the big ships. That's the meta to beat at the moment.

Scum get a ship that turns PS9 into PS0. That'll be huge against Phantoms and the VI meta. A lot of ships are going to be significantly hindered by that.

I'm not sure when I'll even fly the new ships simply because everyone else is. I'm hard-wired to try and avoid what everyone else is flying. I see tables full of Decimators and Outriders, and I just want to fly more shuttles.
