Blinded Pilot with Gunner

By FNG tie pilot, in X-Wing Rules Questions

How does Blinded Pilot interact with each other?

Blinded pilot - the next time you perform an attack, do not roll any attack dice.

Gunner - when you perform and attack that does not hit, immediately perform a primary weapon attack

I know that blinded pilot requires you to have a legal target in order for you to perform the attack, but does the the first attack still qualify as an attack since you do not roll any dice?

The blinded pilot attack is an attack for all intents and purposes. Rolling zero attack dice the attack is unlikely to hit, triggering gunner. The blinded pilot card is turned face-down before the gunner attack. Gunner resolves with full attack dice.

Kanos, Advanced Targeting Computer or Accuracy Corrector with blinded pilot may hit and cause damage!

Edit:

Blount with blinded pilot does hit the defender.

Edit2:

Felechette torpedoes, R3--A2, rebel captive or tactican with blinded pilot deliver stress.

Oh wow. I hadn't even thought about any of them

In addition to the above, RAW the defender is not only entitled but required to roll defense dice. Even if the attacker rolled zero dice and has "nothing" because of blinded pilot.

If you think about it, the Gunner is doing exactly what the name says. The pilot is blinded, so he can't shoot effectively, but the Gunner is unaffected, so his go at manning the guns is without penalty.

I had this exact situation come up in a game last Saturday, and I was pleased with the logical and thematic way the two cards interacted.

Vader works too. He's probably my favorite interaction with this, I imagine him being like "I've got this. We'll discuss your failure later..."
