Difference Between Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Empire

By Bierdwerg001, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi, I have the Edge of the Empire book myself and played a few campaigns with this, now im looking for more sources and i see the Age of Rebellion core book

does anyone know what the differences is between these 2 books?

are they really different? or 90% the same?

are they compatible?

and most of all, would it be an addition to my current files.

If its a different campaign setting all together or maybe even a slightly different game (balance wise for example) id like to know this before i make the purchase.

also is the Game Master screen any different from each other.

I hope someone can help me with this

Game system is the same. AoR has new careers and specs that are more combat focused. A different plot hook mechanic called Duty as opposed to Obligation. The GM screens include different rules.

All fluff is different between the two core rules and nearly all of the specializations and most of the species are different. They're not different campaign settings, just different emphasis to the same universe.

If you are wanting to have your players involved with the Rebellion at any point, it's worth it.

100% compatible, and intended to be such. There's even a special "recruit" spec that you can take to make a "civilian" character from EotE more functional in the more military setting of AoR.

Rules are the same, setting is the sameish (eote is criminal/fringe, aor is rebel/military. Same galaxy, just different theme).

Careers and specs are mostly different, but all the same player roles are covered.

Obligation is replaced with duty. Essentially its a simple reward system, think the exact opposite of duty.

Equipment is mostly the same, though there is a little more military gear.

Vehicles are different, all the big name starfighters are there, same with capital ships.

Fluff is different, lots more focus on military.

Yes, getting AoR stuff will supplement your Edge library, though the milage will vary depending on what you've got going on in your campaign. If your edge campaign includes the words "and they end up with the rebellion" then just go ahead and get AoR.

Also, Force and Destiny, coming out this spring/summer has mostly all the same answers, just force themed.
