Double Fringer / Bandit : 2 matches

By MrParsons, in X-Wing Battle Reports

I had my first run of the following yesterday

2 x Wild Fringer with HLC & Intelligence Agent

2 x Bandit

1st match

-------------

Echo with FCS, ACD, VI & Mara Jade

Soontir with PTL, Stealth & Hull

Interceptor (I forget which)

The initial approach saw the Interceptor (no focus) one shot a Bandit (focus) at range 1. A double HLC volley saw off the Interceptor.

Echo was being Echo and Soontir had got in behind everyone.

Then my opponent moved Soontir to range one of the Fringers rather than sit at range 2 with an evade token. Soontir died. A lesson learned there. 1 up for the turrets. Game over had this been a tournament match.

The rest of the game saw Echo destroy the other Bandit and whittle down a Fringer to 3 or 4 hull before finally falling to the turrets. It took a long time to get Echo but it had to happen eventually.

2nd match

--------------

Same Echo as before

2 x Shuttle with EU & Double Tactician. 1 had FCS

An error of judgement by my opponent resulted in a lovely range 3 exchange on the initial approach. 1 shuttle was down to 3 hull.

I then got my blocking hat on with a lovely 2 had left by a Bandit moving away from the shuttles towards Echo. Echo either had to bump the Bandit or decloak in the wrong direction. Meanwhile everyone else was sat at range 1. A shuttle died and a Fringer lost all shields.

It was this point that Intelligence Agent started to shine with the Fringers getting in the way quite wonderfully. Knowing Echo's move allowed the Fringers to block Echo denying actions and preventing a shot for a cloak. In the first game I'd planned on trying to block with the Bandits but the Fringers were so much better. I'd given up trying to get HLC shots off and instead blocked relying on the turrets.

Echo fell very quickly and that was game over.

Thoughts

-------------

This was the first time I'd flown the YT-2400 and it took a while to get used to the large ship. Towards the end I was getting the hang of it and I like it.

There are some very good options for denying actions. The enemy really doesn't want to get shot by the HLCs but then they also don't want to get in tight at range 1 as I'll always be shooting them and they won't always be shooting me.

I'll be playing this squadron again.

For my money, that's the coolest wave 5 squad I've yet seen. I really wish I'd thought of it. I'm glad to see it's working so far.

This list really caught my eye. I've been brainstorming what type of list to bring into the store championship season, and I'm definitely going to play test this one. How do you set up and run this list? 2 Squads of 2? All as one unit?

I'm not a big one for list names, but if you decide to use one for this list, it should be "Double Fringer Salute".

Thanks for the post! I came up with and tested this EXACT list myself and it performed well for me too!

It has the right mix of firepower, reliability, and shenanigans to upset a lot of lists. It can easily switch from blocking and range 1 turrets causing horrendous furballs, to slow-rolling, jousting juggernaughts.

It outguns Dash too ;)

Keep it up!

I've only played twice (plus some vassal testing) and so far I've gone for each Fringer about a third in from the edge with a Bandit on its outside. The Fringers as far back as possible with the Bandits as far forward as possible.

Given that I'll probably be placing before the opponent I think this gives maximum flexibility.

The basic plan I've started with is to advance the Bandits keeping the Fringers back to try and stay in HLC range. In the first game the Fringers stayed apart but in the second they joined forces for maximum blocking options.

I like the list, very economical use of points and definitely user friendly I think! I have a second 2400 sitting in a box my brother sent me, and I am probably looking to breaking it out and giving it a custom paint job like the first one to field in a similar list as you have above. Thanks for the inspiration!
