I purchased a decent USB microphone to better record our sessions for this and other games. I've been concerned from the start with using Sound Recorder since nothing is saved until the session is over. This invites all kinds of opportunities for the recording to be lost.
Anyway, it just happened today. We finished a 2.5 hour game, the length I only know because I noticed it as I saved the file, only to find out that the recording stopped at 38 minutes. Luckily I discovered this tonight and was able to recall nearly all the details of the session.
Still, I've been trying to find an alternative application, preferably something that will record directly to a file or at least do a periodic checkpoint save automatically. I'm not an audio guy so I don't know what technical terms I'd need to put in my search. I'm sure I'm not the only one recording sessions, so I thought I'd ask:
What recording software does everyone use?
EDIT:Finally just downloaded RecordPad and checked it out. Seems the full feature list wasn't on the website. Maybe its because it records in WAV format, but it writes directly to a file and can be configured to automatically stop recording and then start a new one. It costs about $30 and has a 14 day trial (seems unrestricted) but I had to dig around for that info - nothing in the application or the website states this.
