There's always the Millenium Lee or General Ackbar.
I'm not calling you out specifically mouthymerc, just finding the whole situation ironic.

Not trying to start a fight, Samophlange, I respect you...
... but that seems a tad touchy. It's not a swastika or anything.
'Dukes of Hazzard' is pretty much part of our cultural consciousness, even here in the UK for those of us who are old enough.
And the default ship you get in the beginner set does kinda give off that vibe whether you realise it or not. My friend Chris added the red, white and blue parts to it without me even mentioning the General Lee, so it's not just MouthyMerc or HappyDaze that sees it.
(and for what it's worth, I'm pretty certain we'll see a 'bring 'em back alive' Bountry Hunter in that career book...)
Edited by MaeloraThere's the rub. From a certain point of view, the confederate flag is just as heinous as the swastika. Most of us just remember it as the marking on the general lee. If I adorned a ship with a swastika and said it was called the Colonal Klink, in reference to Hogan's Heroes, it would be reported liketdly split.
Still, it is all seen "from a certain point of view..."
I find the situation ironic, funny in a way, because one flag or word can be seen as bad, but the other is okay because it is reference to a tv show.
Maybe it's just the perspective of time. Slavery in the US ended in 1865. WW2 ended in 1945. We still have people who fought in WW2, but anyone who was a slave (in the US at least) is long dead.
Anyway, I'm a Brit so maybe my perspective is different, but I don't see the Confederate flag as automatically equating to slavery/racism/white supremacy. From what I understand, the Civil War had quite complex causes anyway.
We have something similar to it in the St George Cross which is the English flag, which sometimes still has connotations of these things. I'm Welsh, and our flag is the best flag in the world; nobody else has a dragon on their flag!
Edited by MaeloraJust for the record, the symbol on the General Grievous was that of the CIS rather than that of the CSA, and the Dooku Boys were certainly not good guys (just good ol' boys).

True enough, but the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups are still active today, and many of them hold onto the Confederate Flag the way that Neo-Nazis hang on to the Swastika.
What if Chewie isn't on the ship? What if he dies? Do the upgrades still count in that case, does the Rigger have to be present?
I would say that these modifications need to be continually monitored and maintained. They are not up to spec as far as safety and reliability are concerned, but the Rigger constantly is keeping an eye on them.
It's like stock cars racers that aren't designed to go 5000 miles before a service. They need a lot of maintenance but you get much more out of them.
Without the Rigger, they eventually burn out (maybe taking some system with them).
Otherwise, if they could be plugged in and forgotten, they would be full vehicle attachments.
Edited by Doc, the WeaselIn the context of the picture - clearly emulating the Dukes of Hazard - a Confederate Flag isn't that big of a deal. The show was pretty harmless and pushed no real political agenda. It was all about destroying three Dodge Chargers an episode while Waylon Jennings did voice over for the commercial breaks. The most provocative thing about the series was the ridiculously short shorts on Catherine Bach.
The General Lee is as iconic as the Adam West Batmobile, Ecto 1, KITT and a flying Delorian. If Hogan's Heroes had the Klinkmobile, a vehicle that had permeated the human conscious as much as those other cars - then yes, I would be perfectly fine with turning it into a YT-1300 mashup, swastika and all.
Edited by DesslokHey the dictatorship on my country is even more actual, from 1975 so... I ¿win? XD
We still have fascists, monuments to them, an hereditary monarchy that assured those people on power and their immunity. A constitution that asures that it's almost impossible to investigate fascism crimes like torture and other ones on Spain, women cannot vote 40 years ago... man, Spain sucks XDD
By the way, forget that discussions, more tollerance and open minds. There is enough wars and suffering in this world while people discuss about flag colours and "my country is the best". (My own actually is a big piece of.. XD)
So backing on post, the picture from DoctorWhat its just awesome ![]()
I'm Welsh, and our flag is the best flag in the world; nobody else has a dragon on their flag!
Except for Bhutan, Ennetmoos, half a dozen others and anybody with St. George, St. Margaret or Archangel Michael in their coat of arms, of course. Or any of probably 400 sports clubs around the world that call themselves "Dragons" or a variation of that. ![]()
Since I don't even know the Dukes, it's pretty easy to find the flag problematic. I agree that it doesn't HAVE to be a symbol of slavery, but bradknowles is right: a lot of people use it, because it allows them to show their racist creed without facing the immediate outrage of a swastika. And Desslok, for once I disagree. Yes, the Swastika was used before the Nazis and the buddhist one (turning the other way and standing on one side, not the edge) is unproblematic. But Klinkmobil yes or no, there are still plenty of Nazis around and their sign is CLEARLY the sign of racism, fascism, violence, anti-deocratic ideology and genocide. Sorry that's never OK, no way, no how!
(Sorry, but that is one of the few points where I am not even willing to discuss)
Edited by Spraugman, Spain sucks XDD
This is totally a case of the grass being greener on the other side of the fence. Dude, you live in Spain! How awesome is that! I would love to live there. The great food, the warm weather, the Spanish wine, the beautiful women the gorgeous landscapes. . . . .
I am so jealous right now. ![]()
Yeah, of course we have plenty awesome things
But we have to improve a lot yet my friend ![]()
Racial/gender slavery is vile (more vile than non racial/gender slavery) but less vile than genocide, particularly when the culture in power violently revolts against the practice and puts it down.
Our image of slavery (racial/gender) is a very vile one. However, in some ancient cultures (e.g. Hebrew) it was more like indentured servitude, it was time limitted (unless after the period was over the "slave" decided that they wanted to remain in their master's service for the rest of their life) and there were legal protections in place about how "slaves" could/could-not be treated. In a lot of ways it was fairer than how the employees are treated in sweatshops overseas that make the cheap goods that we as Americans are acustommed to. So yes we are still culpable-for/complicit-in the horrible mistreatment of people who are effectively enslaved even if it is not called "slavery". We just pretend that we aren't because those people don't live within our borders. So let's use another example closer to home, many "illegal" immigrants (there is no such thing as an illegal person), primarily Hispanics are migrant workers who do the back breaking work that provides us with cheap food. They often work in horrible conditions and are afraid to report this to authorities because they don't want to be deported. And a large part of society doesn't want to "reward" them with citizenship (or even permanent residency) because they "broke the law" (by being in the country "illegally") for what they contribute to our society. (My personal political views are compassionate conservative so I'm not happy with how either the Democrat or Republican parties stand on social justice issues.) The point is that we as a society still exploit people without legal rights largely on a racial basis, it's still a form slavery even if we don't call it that. (In case your wondering I'm Caucasian not Hispanic so I'm not promoting the cause of my own cultural group. Although the woman I hope to convince to marry me is Hispanic. )

And I agree with you at a high level - Nazis are bad and Hitler was (one of) the biggest shitheads ever to walk this earth. Absolutely no disputing that from me whatsoever.
Personally, I'm good with having a Rigger PC using their talents to upgrade a ship that they don't "own" so long as they're part of the regular crew. For instance, the Han and Chewie dynamic. Or to look to more recent media, Chopper on Rebels having the Rigger talent tree and then applying those talents to the Ghost, even though Hera is both pilot and owner of said ship.
You could probably make a case for R2-D2 having the Rigger spec and using those talents on Luke's X-Wing, particularly in the post-RotJ EU/Legends where you've got Luke pretty much flying the same X-Wing for years and years with Artoo in the astromech socket. Could be a pretty potent combo, an Astromech Droid Rigger PC working with a Pilot or Hotshot PC in the pilot's seat, especially with the new astromech maneuvers and actions this book introduced.
What about 'Unmatched Survivability'? Could an astromech take that ability, and apply it to the X-WIng he's in, even though he's technically not 'piloting' the craft?
Or would only the meatbag in the cockpit be able to use it, as he's officially the pilot?
Even though, in terms of narrative, repair and survivability seem to be the droid's job, while the pilot is too busy steering, and shooting TIEs.
Edited by MaeloraThe ability does call out that you must be piloting the vehicle.

Sadly no, as the the base ability does call out that you need to be piloting the vehicle. So it'd have to be the meatbag in the driver's seat, though it could narratively be described as the astromech working it's shiny metal arse off to keep the ship and running ![]()
Cheers, that's what I thought.
