Custom Human sub-race help

By Nox0688, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm thinking about making a Fett-Clone PC that is trying to discover their own identity, and feels shame towards the actions of Order 66, and wants to try to redeem his "race", even though he didn't partake in it.

Other then help with his "races" starting statistics, and racial bonuses, what other things would I need to know about a Fett clone? Specifically their sped up aging, and life expectancy. The movie says they take half as long to grow as a regular human, but does that stop when they reach maturity? Any other adverse side effects to the tampering of their DNA?

Generally Clones die faster too. I think this was directly addressed in the Clone Wars cartoon series. This can be a great motivation or even obligation for a Fett-Clone character. For my clone character we made this rapid aging one of his Obligations (Shortened Lifespan) so whenever that obligation was rolled my character became more worried about his shortened lifespan or spent time during that session trying to find a geneticist to halt the rapid aging process.

I also felt the Human's racial bonuses didn't fit so with the help of my GM we made a different racial template for the clones. My reasoning was clones have a very specific "upbringing" and thus wouldn't have the "1 free rank in 2 non-class skills". Instead we made it so the clone starts with 6 class skills instead. Also, clones were created to be soldiers (even if programed for other talents too) and to obey commands so I thought they should have starting stats of Br:2 Ag:3 Int:2 Cun:2 Will:1 Pre:2

Does this help answer some questions?

Thanks for the help, I was almost considering a racial base will of 0 (obv i would spend 10 to up it at character creation) since the Kaminoans said they were totally obedient, but my character willingly disobeyed order 66.

Havn't seen the clone wars series in a long time, gonna have to re-watch it if i decide to go with this character, but I'll look into that, I've been searching through wookiepediea on every unique clone trooper I can find to see when they died, not really a lot of help so far there.

If he's a Fett clone, mechanically I'd just stat him as a base human, and simply not buy up his Willpower if you want to not be quite as "independent" as Clone Commandos or ARC Troopers were. Instead, buy up his Brawn and Agility to reflect the focus on combat that the Republic Clone Troopers had.

The accelerated aging wouldn't really have an in-game effect, other than your guy looks really old in contrast to how long he's actually been alive.

I had a player who wanted to be an AWOL clone trooper. it was hard for me to reconcile the idea of a clone that lived to 30 but appeared older, and still be a "Starting" player character. I just figured there was still clone troopers being used by the time of the BoY.

There were defects in clone process I'm sure you can imagine that the early age process went as planed then the accelerated ageing stopped and was normal by 30in relative terms maybe 40 or slowed to a Boone crawl. Or perhaps someone had a grand plan for this trooper to survive longer for some unforseen plan of devious intent.

Sometimes threads just make the wheels in my head start turning...

How much of clone training is actually programming? A clone that goes AWOL might have to turn his back on more than blind loyalty to the Empire to go AWOL. He might leave behind his advanced skills and fearlessness, too. Then he might find out that he went AWOL because of what amounts to a defect. And he might, one day, have to confront the possibility that the remorse he's feeling is a defect, as well. That can be some pretty interesting drama when the geneticist who eventually cures him of his accelerated aging sorta hints at being able to "fix" his defective emotions, too. He'd obviously say no but have to at least wonder a bit at the authenticity of his own feelings. Guess YMMV with that. I'm not so sure the baboons I play with would delve that deeply into their characters and, if one of them tried, they others would fling what baboons fling at him.

Now I am wondering...

If enough of these clones went AWOL, they represent a problem for the Empire. Revealing the nature of order 66 and other bits of Imperial naughtiness and general yuckiness would be not good. So the Empire might have a special team ready to hunt AWOL clones. Since the candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long, many of the AWOL clones would try to address their accelerated decrepitude. That would give this team a good place to stake out their hunting grounds. I'm not suggesting that this team be called, say, Blade Runners but it might be interesting to have an AWOL clone run into a man named Deckard after or before meeting a man named Solo! :)

BTW, Deckard shot first.

My GM and I decided upon just using the standard Human template for my clone trooper, and just keep in mind his background when creating him. Right now I have EoTE and AoR books, so making him a soildier-sharpshooter, considering adding saboteur as well. For obligations I have bounty and betrayal (10), added the second obligation for the 2,500 starting credits to purchase his clone armor (laminate), and for starting how I have him duel wielding hold out pistols and has two grenades.

I've been doing my own research on Clones that disobeyed Order 66, and have found four squads (Ion, Delta, Omega, and Ordo) and two other individual clones (HOB-147, and CC-1119, the clone in the movie that told Organa to leave the Jedi temple). Ion Squad was personally hunted down by Darth Vader, so yea they definitely take deserters seriously.

His motivations are two find Ordo Skirata, the clone who is searching for the cure to the aging process, and helps other deserters (which sugest there are more cannon instances of disobeying order 66 then the ones specified above). And to also find a Jedi to serve, as a life debt for what his "brothers" did.

Physical description...Well he is a Fett clone, so pretty much that as the basic, his hair is worn in cornrows, he has a pierced eye brow, and his chest he dedicated to a tattoo mural of his friends, the jedi he failed to save in order 66.

This a WIP of his armor, so far all I've done from the original image is just changed the color from blue to green, gonna customize it out some more eventually...

Really liked that armor, so he going with ARC trooper as what he was before he deserted, his name is "ARC-1301". He doesn't have his own unique name yet, going to role play that out getting one, and he obviously isn't flaunting around in his old armor, but I wanted it for when situation allows. Usually he just sticks to regular clothes with a hoodie pulled over concealing his face.

Another factor to consider, particularly if the PC is stating out at the typical starting XP level, is that the Clone PC's skills and characteristics are suffering from advanced age, and thus why they're "low" for someone with as much combat experience as said PC would have given they'd served in the Clone Wars and for several years afterwards.

In the case of the Clone Trooper PC that I played in a friend's game back during the EotE Beta, I simply figured that he was "rusty" and "out of practice" since he'd spent several years laying low (he'd deserted from the Stormtrooper Legions after coming to realize just what the Empire was and that it had betrayed the ideals of the Republic that so many of his clone brothers had given their lives for) to account for why he didn't have multiple ranks in his combat skills. Of course, the GM had set the campaign about 15 years or so after RotS, so even with the rapid aging in effect (game was run well before Season 6 or the EU being shifted to Legends), Auron was only in his early 50's physically (I'd figured he was one of the later batch of Kamino-breed clones that were produced during the final year of the Clone Wars) but still pretty **** capable for "an old soldier."

That is a pretty good explaination of why they are at lower stats then what a trained clone trooper would be at, might barrow it from ya :)

Great minds think alike, Haley :)

Following on from what you said in another thread about Guri, really...

The main two antagonist factions in our games (the Empire and the Jedi/Confederacy) use clone warriors extensively (the Imperium has a human army for peacekeeping/occupation, not for warfare). Mostly, they are seen as non-beings, essentially just biological droids, and are used as disposable (if elite) shock troops and callously sacrificed.

Because they are wholly loyal to their masters, even the Alliance knows not to take them prisoner because they never cooperate or betray their cause. So they are they are just 'humanely' killed rather than captured (though the Alliance frowns on torturing or abusing them). This also gives a weird kind of respect for the clones - while Imperial officers are usually seen as venal and cowardly, Alliance soldiers have a sneaking regard for clones, who never feel fear or doubt or selfishness. On the other hand, it's easier to shoot them in battle, knowing they're not going to have a family or even a personality. (One of our characters actually feels pity for them, and feels that by killing them in battle, their souls are released from their clone bodies and 'returned to the Force'...)

Anyway, as 'droid rights' is a big thing in the game, I thought it would be interesting if some of the clones started having 'defects' and became self-aware... with their own 'clone underground' and civil rights aims.

Now, Guri being a human-like Data-type droid that's 'fully functional' seemed totally outside of the clunky tech we see in Star Wars. But her being a clone seemed perfect - outwardly just a compliant slave/assassin/plaything to the Black Sun leader, but secretly self-aware and wanting to help others like her...

I don't think the factions realize the extent of this yet, but if it became known, I definitely think the Empire might designate agents to hunt them down. If a clone somehow exhibited Force-sensitivity - blasphemy! - so would the Jedi.

I was even thinking of eventually revealing that one of the PCs, who thinks they're human, is secretly a clone... Probably the one who expresses the most distaste and disgust towards 'synthetics'...

OMG, this is EVIL.

I love it!

The whole idea sounds fun. Even if it wasn't Star Wars, it would be cool.
