How to get Lambda Shuttles to turn around

By gundamv, in X-Wing

I managed some wins (but more loses I will admit) using a Lambda Shuttle with HLC and Advanced Sensors backed up with two Black Squadron TIE Fighters with wingman.

This means that the shuttle can use advanced sensors to focus, perform a hard two turn, get stressed and then have the stress token removed at the beginning of the combat phase to perform a hard two again if needed.

That combo costs 63 pts so you have plenty left over for a strong flanker or more TIEs, just add your own flair to it.

The one that has seen the most wins however has been:

Black Squadron TIE with Wingman x 2

Captain Kagi with Advanced Sensors and Tactician x 2

Carnor Jax with Push the Limit, Stealth Device and Targeting Computer (Royal Guard Title)

This is 100 pts exactly, causes large ships a lot of stress and counters the stress from turning too much with the shuttle. Additionally, due to Carnor's ability to hinder focus, people will target lock which is where Kagi comes in.

Also, this build does allow the shuttle to sit still for a few turns, focussed, if you have the flights right.

Suffers to swarms somewhat (six ships or more) due to a lack of attack die so some tact is needed to secure the win. But you already knew that if you decided to include a shuttle in the first place. :)

How good are those tacticians? I'm a skeptical. Also Carnot tends to die very fast for me. And thus focus still tends to rein supreme

Shield upgrade + Hull upgrade on those modifications is what makes Carnor Jax durable at range 1 when you can't help it. It can tank a lot of damage that way.

Hmm. Auto thrusters isn't going to help much either vs normal ships. Poor Carnor.

you don't. You should try to find a nice spot for the Shuttle where you can catch most of the battlefield, and have the Shuttle park there as long as possible, with a combination of kabangs and its own 0 maneuver.

Either you have AS + EU on your shuttle

or you have won the game before you need to turn your shuttle

or you probably do something wrong.

Double stress against a Decimator or a YT-2400, which is all I seem to play against recently (seriously, every game has either one of these, it's really starting to annoy me) and you completely shut down their actions. You manage to do that two turns in a row and the rest of your squad will mop up.

Carnor does attract a lot of attention due to his action denial which is why I like to focus/evade with him when possible until I know I can kill the target in round of firing. The TIEs and shuttle put out between 7 to 10 die on their own, normally focussed and that should be enough to drown a large ship. Ideally I would like to take auto thrusters over targeting computers to give him that little bit extra tankiness but I have to wait till wave 6 for that.

This is just one way I have found to turn the shuttle. it costs 16pts (and is a ship) instead of the 7 points in upgrades, three turns and no focus so I prefer this method.

Plan ahead.

Waaaaaaay ahead.

One strategy that I've used it plan on where you are going to move everything. If you are going to turn your shuttle to the right....then plan on having your other fighters end up in that general area. What it effectively does is brings the fight closer to the front of the shuttle. Is it ideal? Is it easy? No. Does it work if you can pull it off? Yes.
