Ponies

By Cununculus, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Finally I can ask! Now there is an off-topic sub-forum; I have seen several posts with ponies, references to ponies, and even an X-wing in Rainbow colours. All happy colourful ponies.

Where do these come from? Is this something like bacon? To be used for satire? Is it a secret religion? Do people collect ponies? Has someone painted his x-wings in pony colours? Are ponies used in secret messages in a plot to conqueor the world?

They come from a children's show and toy line called "My Little Pony".

They are nothing like bacon, so do not eat them.

They are not really satirical.

They may well be the basis of a secret religion (If I knew for sure it wouldn't really be a secret, would it?)

People do collect these and I believe someone even painted his ships in pony colors.

If they are intended to conquer the world, they aren't very good at it.

It's a creepy obsession over a children's show.

I said the same thing, that is until, Girlfriendclaus, pointed out all my 'toys' on the table.

"You know you're Forty-Two, right"?

"Yeah, but those are PONIES"!

"Yep, and those are little space ships... I hear you guys in there quoting the movies and making pew pew noises".

Disturbing... so very disturbing...

Major difference, I first I thought the fandom was pure satire but its just weird

Not really a major difference, if any. There are star wars fans who are every bit as creepy as the worst brony. (unfortunately wookiee porn is a thing)

SW was at least designed with adults in mind, while MLP is purely for kids. And at least wookiees are humanoid. I think alien porn is less creepy than bestiality.

They are called 'Bronies' and they are headed to the special hell with pedophiles and people who talk at the movie theatre.

Thanks!

I didn't expect the hostility against 'Bronies' (so this is regular used term?)

I know it is a kids toy, I just genuinly didn't know people collect them as fanatically as some collect X-wing.

Now at least I understand where all these pony-replies and reactions of despair towards them come from.

If they are intended to conquer the world, they aren't very good at it.

They have already conquered most of the interwebs :D

With some of them yeah. But your average "brony" is as harmless as most fanboys.

Okay lemme explain how this whole brony thing happened:

A while ago people decided to reboot the my little pony cartoon. They put Lauren Faust in charge and she decided to not just make it for little girls but to put some awesomeness in it aswell (There's a big lebowski reference in one of the episodes for crying out loud!)

The thing is: the show is animated in Flash. this caused some git on the internet to decry it "the death of western animation" and told people not to watch it.

The 4chan crowd did what they always do when you tell them not to do something. They do it just to spite you. And when they watched it they found it suprisingly good and a new fandom was born.

This led to tons of fan art being made (last estimates place it as bigger than all the SW, trek and doc who fan art combined) and this led to the whole "ponify everything" thing.

Also some fans got rather weird and then some dude wrote the "Cupcakes" fanfic, proving once again why we can't have nice things on the internet.

Don't be so sure of it, waaaay to much refences to star trek and other movies/series in it for that to be the case.

MLP is about bestiality the same way ROTJ is about female sexslaves.

Funny I thought RotJ was about patricide and the merits of electric shock therapy.

... and the untimely death of poor Boba Fett, thousands of imperial construction workers, hundereds of storm troopers who got eaten by savage tribal teddy bears and one poor rancor who left behind an unconsable trainer. ****... ROTJ is horrible! :D

Here lemme show you how awesome it gets.

I actually had a few my little ponies when I was in early grade school. Mainly because I had several female friends at that age who had them.

To be fair, I only got the boy ponies, which you could tell because they had hairy legs, haha. I think I had a pirate, cowboy, fireman, and maybe one other.

While most pony references do refer to My Little Pony, if the phrase used is "For pony!" it is referring to the webcomic Looking For Group, where one of the protagonists (the pathological homicidal maniac warlock Richard) uses this as his battle-cry.

as the father of a 3 year old, the My little pony series is a staple in my house. Additionally, I spend as much time with my daughter as i can, and i will say, while i do not enjoy watching children's cartoons, like most adults don't, (at least the healthy and mentally stable ones) My little pony is probably the better of all the children's cartoons that are out there.

Some of the episodes have a lot of silly references and inclusions that don't make it completely a terrible show and relatively fun to watch for a children's show.

Frankly, my daughter can choose from just about anything, but her favorite shows to watch with daddy are My Little Pony and Star Wars, the Clone Wars animated series. Ill take the good with the bad if it means i don't have to watch Doc Mcstuffins or Jake and the Neverland pirates for the 300th time.

It's worse than that. Shaven wookie porn...

With regards to My Little Pony: As has been mentioned, G4 was not created with just the little girls in mind.

Hasbro brought in Lauren Faust to head the project, who I believe is on record as stating that she aimed to make the show not only for the little girls, but to also entertain the parents. If the show entertains adults that do have kids, it's not much of a stretch to think that adults without kids might also be entertained.
