Devs:So what does type III Berethron armor look like?

By EliasWindrider, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Wookieepedia doesn't say jack about it so I figure it was something the devs made up for Suns of Fortune.

So Devs...

It's "armored clothing," but could you be more specific?

Does it look like a military uniform?

CorSec uses it (and they need to go undercover) so maybe not, maybe it looks like a generic jump suit or generic clothing.

If it does look like armor, is it recognizable as Correllian official gear, or does it look like something that any rough and tumble type might wear?

A picture would be helpful if you have it.

If you want the developers to respond, you should send them an e-mail. Posting a question on here will get you a response from other players, some of which may have been involved in an earlier alpha test phase of one project or another, but you’re not likely to get any official answers here.

For now, I’d say it would look like whatever super-modular armor you think it should look like.

I doubt that it's as discrete as armoured clothing. The description for AC says that it's indistinguishable from normal clothes unless you pay close attention (I'm paraphrasing here) while the Berethron armour makes no mention of anything like that. I interpret it as very lightweight armour that can be more easily concealed under a coat or other clothes, but is recognisable armour. That's just my take on it, though.

Fits with what I was thinking: scaled-down riot gear, in appearance. I would suggest an energy-resistant jumpsuit with a few (semi?)rigid pads.

It kinda looks like Starkillers outfit in the first Fu game

So it would look a lot like what a swat team wears on earth?

Riot gear is not what SWAT teams wear (unless responding to a riot and they can afford to have multiple sets of armor). Apples and oranges. One is large padded/rigid pieces over clothing meant to protect against blunt and cutting instruments. The other is plates of soft or hardened armor meant to stop bullets.

I would agree with what Thallios said above. A suit of soft armor (ballistic material) with hardended plates in certain areas. That goes with the description of "energy dispersing mesh" with "strategically placed plastoid plates". I don't know if I would go with a jumpsuit since it is supposed to be modular. That tells me several pieces can be added or taken away easily. But I would perhaps accept a soft armor jumpsuit with the modular part being only the plastoid plates that can be added over the top of it. The description also states the armor doesn't severely impede the wearer, so I would avoid it looking like modern riot or SWAT gear, which can be very impeding. So, Thallios' description of, "scaled-down riot gear" would be appropriate, with me adding "very" at the start.

I wouldn't call it concealable at all by the description. It would obviously be armor.

The description reminded me of 2300AD ballistic armor with vedette half plate armor added. I couldn't find a good picture quickly. http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/108/e/b/cat_merc_by_cynomolge.jpg
