Back to Basics, critique please

By BCooper85, in X-Wing

My last few posts have been about going back to basics(thanks for everyone who has replied :) ), somewhere I've got a bit lost and feel taking things back a few steps will do me good.

Here's a list I've just put together, go nuts pulling it apart!

================ Back To Basics 1 ================

100 points

Dagger Squadron Pilot (27) B-Wing (24), Advanced Sensors (3)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Luke Skywalker (36) X-Wing (28), R2-D2 (4), Shield Upgrade (4)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Would prefer to have another B instead. Drop some upgrades

Find a point for Luke to DtF; probably needs to come from the B-Wing.

Would prefer to have another B instead. Drop some upgrades

That would require dropping all the upgrades if you want to push the Bandit to a Blue. You'd get something like: Luke (28) + Biggs (25) + Blue (22) x2 leaving you 3 points.

Lone wolf for luke? Haha.

Or for wedge or something.

Why so much on Luke? I like him, but I've always found him to be underwhelming...

What were your thoughts behind pilot choices? I find it easier to offer meaningful critique if I know what you were aiming for.

What kind of lists do you expect to fly against?

I see nothing wrong with your list because you have your own purpose for it.

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Luke Skywalker (28)
Expert Handling (2)
Wedge Antilles (29)
Outmaneuver (3)
Tala Squadron Pilot (13)
Total: 100

Heeding advice to add another B-wing would lead you to four B-wings.

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Advanced Sensors (3)
x4
Total: 100

... and removing the one B-wing would lead you to XXXZ.

Wedge Antilles (29)
Outmaneuver (3)
Luke Skywalker (28)
Expert Handling (2)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
Tala Squadron Pilot (13)
Total: 100

Only thing I would do, drop the shield and take the dagger to blue, give Luke lone wolf and change the bandit to a proto A. Gives you some blockage/flank, increases the chance to get Luke's ability off, and still retains the firepower.

In the squad builders, at list one of your squads has Luke equipped with Wingman instead of Expert Handling.

Now you've got me thinking!

The Bandit is definitely filler which is no good.

I want to use Biggs because using him is a tried and tested method, we know it works. I've never used him and as part of my going back to basics I thinking using something tried and tested and getting that to work for me would be a good start.

Sod it I'm just going to play Biggs walks the dogs for the time being, saves me thinking about builds so I can just concentrate on making the right calls. Now just need to get in a few games!

I like the idea of getting back to basics! What do you guys think about a b-wing version utilizing some of the new upgrade cards?

Luke Skywalker - 28pt

- Lone Wolf - 2pt

- Experimental Interface - 3pt

- R2-F2 - 3pt

Keyan Farlander - 29pt

- Stay on Target - 2pt

- Fire Control System - 2pt

- B-Wing/E2 - 1pt

- Gunner - 5pt

Biggs Darklighter - 25pt

100pt

Keep luke out on the flanks harrassing and picking off stragglers, with Biggs accompanying Keyan to take hits allowing him chew through the opposition while staying on target with a gunner, with the b wings 2 maneuvers you can keep Biggs within range 1 without issues...just an idea that looks good on paper but in the game idk yet

As much as I love gunner, I wouldn't pay the 1 point premium for him on a b-wing, though with Biggs at hand, it might be worth it.

I would probably go with advanced sensors and spend a few points elsewhere. Maybe tactician and an ion cannon? Situational, but a pain the butt when you land it.

Another option might be to spend a few points on Biggs and put an Intel agent on Keyan. Could help you place him where he needs to be for best effect. Especially with stay on target.

I played a game against my girlfriend last night using BWtD for the first time, she used Luke, Wes and Ten Numb. I won, it came down to one B-wing each.

Need a few more games to get used to what the B can do, I enjoyed fyling them though and I managed to keep Biggs at R3 in the first round of shooting :D

- Experimental Interface - 3pt

- R2-F2 - 3pt

I like the look of this combo. But I'm not sure Luke really needs the Experimental Interface to pull it off.

Luke activates R2-F2, gets to change a focus to an evade with his pilot ability and reroll a blank with Lone Wolf. similarly, Lone Wolf gives him a passive attacking buff as well... provided you can keep Luke away from your other ships, EI for an extra action (and stress) might not actually be needed that often.
