When I've used him I've given him a SU and R2D2. That's been along with Wedge and Jan. He soaks all the fire in the first round, allowing Wedge to blast something out of the sky, then Biggs breaks off to regenerate shields if he has to. Wedge and Jan takes care of the fighting as no one ever goes after Biggs in that situation. Then the opponent has one or a few beat up ships remaining to fight a fully shielded X-wing. Saved my endgame lots of times.
How would you buff Biggs? Do you need to?
I buff him with a standard training regimen involving lots of upper-body workouts. Mostly weights, that sort of thing.
In game, I then fly him naked (I feel it is the best value for the points, and it shows off all that increased muscle tone).
I laughed out loud at this on the train ![]()
Isn't biggs errataed to not work with epic ships? Just standard small and large?
It is, Biggs cannot cover huge ships, just small and large ships from the z-95 to the falcon.
His job is to be destroyed. DO NOT spend extra points on him. Keep him cheap.
The key with Biggs is not just to use him to soak damage that would hit your heavy hitter(s). The key is to force your enemy to spread out its damage. Move slow, keep Biggs at range as long as possible. In the first volley, he should be at least 1-2 ship lengths behind the ships he is protecting. This accomplishes spread fire, because your enemy's front row will be forced t shoot Biggs while his back row cannot. Neither ship will take enough damage to be cleared. 2 damaged ships are far better than a single undamaged ship.
Good point, when playing with Biggs it is not a matter of if Biggs gets destroyed, he is going to get destroyed. Any points spent on him will not be there in the late game. There is often investment in keeping Biggs around as long as possible but his job is to take 5 hits off of other vital ships in the squadron like Jan Ors or other HWK support. Now you could say give Biggs a torpedo to alpha strike and won't have to worry too much about lost points.
There is another way to build biggs and that is to upgrade the squadron around him so when Biggs finally bites it the upgrades are still around. Stuff like Draw their Fire + R2-D2 on a friendly ship or Tactical Jammer on a Falcon or with Biggs flying behind it. IF Biggs finally gets destroyed you still have the other upgrades.
Biggs job is not to be destroyed, it's to get your end game ships to live past the opening joust. If he dies so that your other ships can live that's fine. If your build is just about some heavy hitters that needs to be protected then run him with 0 upgrades.
If your running ships that can keep Biggs alive longer, then it's fine to add points to him. Once you make this choice though you will want to keep him alive to protect your investment. There's lots of ways to kit out Biggs, but defense and spreading the damage is key. DTF + R2-D2, Big ship + Tactical Jammer, Garven, Cracken, or Lando. This post is filled with good advice on how to upgrade him.
