advanced sensors

By Wayne Argabright, in X-Wing

can somebody please explain how this upgrade would be actually used? as in what actual benefit does it have to do your action BEFORE you move? "Immediately before you reveal your maneuver, you may perform 1 free action. If you use this ability, skip your "perform Action" step during this round." the only small perceived benefit that i can think of is if you were going to hit an object but could barrel roll/boost first to ovoid it? or am I missing something? thanks....

You could even take an action (e.g. focus) before overlapping other ships or doing a red maneuver.

With Push the Limit you could do the 2 actions first, then clear the stress in the same round.

I'm not sure my self and I'm sure the Card gurus will be here in a tick. But after I read your post it got me thinking could you use it for say Mara Jade or somthing along those lines?

-You get an action if you're pulling a red maneuver

-You can PTL and then green to pull a red next turn

-you can BR/boost so that you don't bump ships or run over asteroids

And that's just off the top of my head.

AS allow you to barrel roll or boost before your maneuver to end up in a location you could not reach without AS. That makes you unpredictable. And you dodge firing arcs. Best used with high PS but not to be underestimated on blues.

thanks the whole "Red" maneuver thing I wasn't even thinking about!! K turn B wing and STILL being able to TL is Golden!!!!

It makes the B-wing incredibly good.

i have been playing 4 blue Bs with a Z and they destroy pretty much everything. I can see 4 blues with advanced sensors all focusing fire on something on the return "Flip" aka "K" being devastating..

They can use the 1-turn and barrel roll to turn on the spot too.

K turn B wing and STILL being able to TL is ...
ILLEGAL!
Using Advanced Sensors, you can FIRST TL, THEN K-turn.
Note: if you're still on the initial approach to a joust, you are likely to be further away from your target when you try to TL.
I like to use it to avoid being blocked (enemy puts a TIE Fighter right where I would K-turn), so I now Advanced Sensors Barrel Roll, then K-turn.

You know what he meant.

Yeah, it was meant to be a little tongue-in-cheek.

I have found that it takes practice/mental discipline to not rush to turn over the dial (same with Phantom de-cloak).

And I did want to draw attention to the block avoiding possibility.

One tactic is to put EU on a B-Wing or E-wing then boost using AS then a K-turn to end up behind your target, makes an expensive ship, so generally not used in 100 point lists, but in larger lists. A poor mans version of the new Segnor's Loop.

It makes the B-wing incredibly good.

You should also try out what you can do with the following combo: Keyan Farlander, PTL, Engine upgrade, Advanced sensors. It's redonculous what crazy maneuvering you can pull of with that, and get a stress to fuel your damage. He also works equally well with Stay on Target and Adv. sensors.

I have juked Echo who had higher initiative for 2 consecutive Turns with Keyan like that and then obliterated him (her? Or was Whisper the girl?). It was the best feeling of accomplishment i ever had in X-Wing!

Inam also looking forward to use it on the Advanced for free some time. I mean ATC sounds great and AC too, but i guess on anyone but vader, Adv. Sensors will be equally interesting!

Try an E-wing with ptl, engine upgrade and advanced sensors. It is life-changing.

yeah the only problem i see with the B is the 2K turn its both great and a bane as it gets easily blocked by big base ships.. but with ptL end engine up grade i can see how that would be great.

And that precisely is one of the major benefits to using AS on a B-Wing. Simply declare AS to Barrel Roll first to whichever side of the large base ship you need to go then pull your 2k. As long as you leave yourself options on the joust approach you can zip all over the place with them.

On countless occasions I have stayed in my formation and rolled right up nose to nose with an asteroid where your next maneuver would normally make you go through it only to BR to the side first.

When you are using several Blue Squadrons w/ AS your BR's are pretty easy to execute since they all have the same PS and you just go in the order you choose to make sure you have a safe spot to go.

Now while Barrel Rolling first prior to moving is incredibly powerful you need to remain vigilant about taking a focus or TL the majority of the time.

Another fun list to try is Biggs + 3 Blues w/ AS. Keep them virtually unscathed through a round or 2 of firing and you give yourself the necessary time to inflict some massive damage on somebody.
