Has anyone tried a double Decimator list?

By StarWarsDad1138, in X-Wing

So I received a second VT-49 for Christmas and am wondering about a double Decimator build. Generic or named? Identical upgrades or not? A couple lists:

Double Decimator #1 (99/100)

=========================

VT-49 Decimator: Commander Kenkirk (44 + 8)

+ Draw Their Fire (1)

+ Ysanne Isard (4)

+ Rebel captive (3)

VT-49 Decimator: Captain Oicunn (42 + 5)

+ Draw Their Fire (1)

+ Mara Jade (3)

+ Tactical Jammer (1)

Double Decimator #2 (100/100)

=========================

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40 + 2)

+ Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40 + 2)

+ Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

TIE Fighter: Black Squadron Pilot (14 + 2)

+ Wingman (2)

Double Decimator #3 (100/100)

=========================

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40 + 10)

+ Seismic Charges (2)

+ Gunner (5)

+ Weapons Engineer (3)

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40 + 10)

+ Seismic Charges (2)

+ Gunner (5)

+ Weapons Engineer (3)

On that last, another thought is to replace the weapons engineers with Mara Jade and Rebel Captive.

I'm looking for more than just critique on these lists, but also thoughts on the general viability of the idea. I know two-ship lists are a thing now.

I faced an Oicunn/Chiraneau combo once. I think it can work, but you have to be smart with it. If you fly them straight at the enemy, they'll get lit up like a disco ball. Better to strafe the enemy, and have cards like Moff, Rebel Captive, Isard or Mara to help keep them alive, and do what you can to split enemy fire.

list number 4:

admiral with ysanne and predator

Kirk with predator

gives you two tanky survivable builds with the admiral having a slightly better hit probability.

This worked for me... I didn't end up expanding on it. I really should toy with it a bit more.

Chiraneau + Expose + EI

Oicunn + Determination + RC

99 points

Cheers

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40+10)

Gunner, Engine Upgrade, Tactical Jammer

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40+10)

Gunner, Engine Upgrade, Tactical Jammer

I would go for this for the first try

Ive tried.

rear admiral, expose, Issard, experimental interface

patrol leader, darth vader.

Won 2 games, but my opponent wasn't that great.

I'd be tempted to swap expose and EI for ptl and engine upgrade.

I got third place at my flgs last week with this list.

Decimator of Doom (100/100)

==========================

VT-49 Decimator: Patrol Leader (40 + 3)

+ Darth Vader (3)

VT-49 Decimator: Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46 + 11)

+ Expose (4)

+ Ysanne Isard (4)

+ Experimental Interface (3)

how did vader work for you

?

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, I am definitely interested to hear reactions to flying with or against a Doom Decimator.

Vader did pretty well I found, though my double D lists require more practice.

The rear admiral is a bigger threat, so usually gets targeted first. He also shoots first, which lets you down shields so vader can crit away.

I tried double D once, wasn't too impressed. Oicunn+Patrol comes in at 82pts already and 18 seems like not enough to get a decent amout of upgrades on these guys.

Don't get me wrong, it could be fun to play, but i dont think we'll see competetive 2D lists like we saw with Falcons.

A set of double D's can be fun to play with! ;)

Seriously - I am looking at ways to make this a viable build. What I am currenty running is:

Kenkirk - Lone Wolf - Rebel Captive

Chiraneau - Determination - Ysanne Isard

I agree with Swedge this setup makes both tankier than normal. And I agree with nurglex that Chiraneau is the bigger threat, which is why he has Isard to keep him around longer with the guaranteed evade a turn. I try to keep the ships at least range 3 apart so Lone Wolf kicks in every turn (doesn't always happen, unfortunately). I Target Lock with Chiraneau as my primary action because he has the built in mini-Marksmanship for the first focus. I Focus with Kenkirk as my primary action because he has the mini-Target Lock with the Lone Wolf ability. The Captive helps in the late game, if Chiraneau is the primary target and taken out first. I would like to increase Chiraneau's output a bit more, so am looking at dropping the Captive on Kenkirk for Predator on Chiraneau, but really like how this setup has performed in my couple of test games.

I have wanted to try a Doom-Decimator, so nurglez and TabletopXwingPilot list is one I will need to look at. It is not as tanky as this build, but the damage output of both ships plus the targeted attack of Vadar (when used sparingly) may work better than this build.

Even 2 patrol leader's are 80 points, though I have considered running 2 and having 20 points to play around with.

I also like Oicunn instead of the rear admiral, more for his slightly higher ps and elite skill over his special ability. It lets you have an extra 4 points over the rear admiral, but with PTL, Issard and engine upgrade you can still boost at the start of the combat phase as long as you are damaged, arc dodging after almost everything.

Captain Oicunn — VT-49 Decimator 42 Push the Limit 3 Ysanne Isard 4 Rebel Captive 3 Engine Upgrade 4 Patrol Leader — VT-49 Decimator 40 Darth Vader 3 Tactical Jammer 1 100

though its a rough idea :D

I like the last idea. I had considered Oicunn as an option just for the EPT slot. Now I just have to find time to try all these lists.

I have run the list below a couple of times now. Find it to be very annoying for everyone else and hasnt lost yet in different formats, although there was definately some fear on the board for them.

I run them right behind one another, Oicunn is there to ram and does his damage and then reduces the agility with intimidation. Kenkirk then comes along with the predator reroll and if he misses gunner to attempt again with the reduced agility. Its the combination i'm going to run for a while now.

Essentially just Smash smash smash and absorb as much as you can and hope for crits that arent too nasty. Its one of the only times when a direct hit is preferred to any other crit.

Captain Oicunn
Intimidation
Ysanne Isard

Commander Kenkirk
Predator
Gunner
