silhouette 3 shuttle

By bubblepopmei, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

It is my plan to have my players board an Imperial customs corvette. I want to put a small shuttle on the ship as a means of egress. Unfortunately, the shuttles I'm finding are silhouette 4. The corvette is silhouette 5.

Do you know of a silhouette 3 shuttle? I expect as many as seven passengers might be on board.

Whats wrong with the sil 4 shuttle?

Are you talking about an escape pod?

You could have it be conveniently attached to another docking ring for the purposes of off-loading personnel and equipment just when it is time to go. That way there is no question of how the Sil 4 shuttle fits inside the Sil 5 corvette.

Or they could dock airlock to airlock. Then silhouette wouldn't matter at all. The Customs Corvette doesn't have a hangar bay, so anything except an escape pod would have to be attached to the exterior anyway.

I believe the HWK-290 is Silhouette 3 (not in front of my books at the moment). It is unarmed so it's nearly a shuttle.

The HWK-290 has 2 crew and 2 passengers though.

Hand wave some cargo into passenger space

This bad boy would prolly stat out on the high end of Sil 3. Its only a few meters longer then a y-wing, and is well suited to support customs operations.

That thing is hideous looking, and not it the "ugly has its own beauty" sort of way.

The sil question along these lines have come up before. Hand wave.

The stats for the HWK-290 are already a giant hand wave if you compare it to the cutaway drawings, escpecially the 70 encumbtance capacity.

Really, we are talking about a storyline idea here anyways. How do the PCs get on the ship if the shuttle is their means of egress? If they are being transported as prisoners or sneak aboard, but then need to escape, the thing that makes the most sense is that a lambda shuttle links up with the custom corvette for some reason. The PCs then have a narrow window to make their escape.

Its designed to work, not to look pretty. You want pretty, get nubian.

2 laser cannons, 2 ion cannons, 2 torpedo launchers, decent hull and shields, has an actual maneuverability high enough to get a positive rating, and it can carry 30ish people. Were it not for the low speed rating (3 at the highest) and lack of turrets it would probably one of the best craft in the galaxy.

Despite length, that sounds like a Silhouette 4 craft. Those capabilities are more along the lines of the Skipray or the 4R3 than of a fighter or small shuttle.

Posibly. The thing can turn on a dime though. To me tthe size and agility would make it work at sil 3. it'll be upper end of sil 3.

See, not that big.

Have a picture of it compared to a Lambda shuttle?

I'll see if I can track one down. Offhand I'd estimate it at roughly the size of a Lambda's cockpit and fuselage. Those wings on the lambda make its profile huge.

Though I'm wondering what otaku wrote the wookieepedia entries weapons load out. I confess I once saw a rendering that gave the appearance of 8 lasers and 4 ion cannons, but I've never actually seen that load in use anywhere. Its always just 2 of each.

I'd prolly stat it out about like:

Sil:3

Speed:2

Handling:+2

Defenses:2/2

Armor:4

Ht:25

St:18

Hyperdrive:x2

Nav:yes

Sensors: Short

Complement:1 pilot, 1 copilot

Enc 230 (without passengers)

Passengers: 30 (or 10 in powered armor)

Consumables: 1 month

Price/rarity:160,000®/6

Hard points:0

Weapons: foward linked 1 medium laser cannons, linked 1 light ion cannons, linked 1 ammo 5 torpedo launchers, and a ventral plasma boarding device.

So its a killer ship, that can work well in the role its intended, but its speed will always be a big arrow in the knee keeping it in the support role, and out of Munchkinland.

Take the stats for a Lambda, halve it's passenger and cargo capacity, drop most of the guns, make it Sil 3 and reduce crew to pilot / co-pilot and voila, an instant Sil 3 shuttle.

OK, maybe reduce its HT/SS thresholds a bit as well...

Or, go for the boarding shuttle version of the TIE bomber. That's Sil 3 and can carry 12 passengers. Also it would make a lot of sense to find one of these on a customs corvette. No hyperdrive unfortunately if you need the party to have one to escape.

the cut away drawings are wrong when you look at the source for the ship

Storm trooper transport has a Length of 20 meters which is a big larger then some Star fighters.

There is no reason a corvette couldn't have some sort of non-hyperspace transport in a hold for transfers.

handwave it.

Why not just pick a different ship for the imperial customs corvette that is a larger silhouette?

The Marauder from the Edge core rulebook is only Sil 5 yet it carries 12 fighters and two shuttles. It can quite easily fill the role of a customs vessel.

The TIE/sh variant of the TIE/sa Bomber hull replaces the armament pod on the TIE Bomber with a passenger pod that holds 4 passengers in comfort and incorporates a shield generator. Imperial captains and officers use it as a ship's boat to move from ship to ship in a fleet battlegroup. No hyperdrive, but it is Sillhoutte 3 and would be plausible to find on an imperial vessel.

But it also serves as a precident for Sil 3 shuttlecraft/ship boats. I'd say if the TIE/sh doesn't suit your needs, stat something up in the "slower-moving, bad handling" starfighter range and tack 2-6 passenger seats in it.
