Reprint 1st Edition of Descent?

By Badgermilk, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi,

Are there any plans to create a reprint of the 1st Edition and all the expansions (I guess with a big disclaimer that it is NOT for 2nd edition to avoid confusion)?

I came a little late to the party and now that I got almost every piece created for 2nd edition I really want to experience, what I understand, the longer, more scripted dungeon crawler aspect of the 1st edition.

Thanks for any info. =)

Unlikely.

ebay.

As others have stated in the past, I would highly doubt it.

I don't ever want to say never, as you never know. Wow. What a badly constructed statement. :P

I have a friend that was in the same boat as you, and he managed to collect all of the expansions of D1e via eBay. Fair warning ... he paid a pretty penny for it all.

I sincerely doubt they would ever reprint D1E. Especially not with the sheer number of bits that D1E had (FFG has since retired the epic "coffin box" games, with the notable exception of TI3.)

In addition to the obvious confusion it would cause to have two separate, incompatible editions of the game out there at the same time, there's also the fact that D1E went OOP for a reason. It had its flaws; it wasn't originally designed to be played the way people wanted to play it and efforts to rebuild the game engine (without invalidating existing content) were making the whole thing very clunky. It was an epic experience, but it was not intuitive by any means.

However, if enough people show an interest in a return to 1E-style dungeon crawlers, they might make a third edition that's closer to that original feel. After D2E goes OOP, of course...

If the prices on eBay are too high, though, there are plenty of other dungeon crawlers out there. You could also pretty easily design your own homebrew quests that play more like D1E did, if you were so inclined.

Have you looked into the Co-op campaigns? I read that they offer a much more dungeon-crawler type of game than the normal Descent 2E and expansions that is very close to 1st edition (I think it's even more "epic"). Obviously there is no OL, but some poeple say the OL role was boring in Descent 1E anyway.

Alongside exploring the map, the coolest addition that the co-op campaigns bring is the "loot track" that basically gives you some kind of resource for killing monsters (finally a reward for ridding the land of those evil spawns) which you will be "trading" in for XP points and items during the quest.

I don't hold my hopes to high to get a reprint of the 1st edition, but it would be pretty nice.

I will get the Co-Op Campaigns later during January, so maybe those will give me the exploration feeling. =)

Why would they ?

The second edition is here, and all old minis are being remade especially for the second edition. So, forget it !
