Campaign: Jedi with a Gun, Soldier with a Blade?

By KerenskyTheRed, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So I have a copy of the game and have been reading up on the rules before I play with my buddy later this week. I noticed that the character sheets don't indicate the attack type or dice the character uses because the weapon cards are used to indicate that. I was thinking about the rules and realized that the game says a hero may take 2 weapons into battle but does not restrict the wookie or Jedi wannabe to only melee weapons (or ranged heroes to range).

If I'm understanding this correctly, after the first mission it is possible for a melee hero to gain a ranged attack simply by taking a ranged weapon into the next mission. Is this intended by FFG? I understand that thematically some players will want to self-restrict but the rules don't bar this otherwise. I'm a little concerned about the balance of the game. Gaarkham could really wreck havoc if he could use a decent blaster AND melee weapon.

"How uncivilized" Obi Wan

But I can see why you would want a Jedi with a gun with both Ezra & Kanan (Caleb) from Rebels

Some of the abilities of a hero requires a certain type ofweapon to be used. So while you can useany weapon you want, you might not get the full use of yohrabilities from it
