Clone Wars expansion?

By sdh007, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

There's just as much "nonsense" in the OT. Just we were children when we saw it. ;)

I believe there are different licenses for the original vs. The prequel. That suits me just fine as I am old and am happier pretending the prequels and special editions never happened. (::shakes fist:: Han shot first; now get off my lawn.) My guess is we will see "big box expansions" that cover the time after Empire Strikes Back and another after Return of the Jedi with differently stated ally cards - like Luke and Han - for each.

If episode 7 will be a good movie, then I'd probably prefer those jedi's running around Imperial Assault to the weirdo monks of episodes 1-3. But who knows, maybe episode 7 will suck too. There's still a lot of cool original trilogy yet to cover (namely Boba Fett) so either way, that kind of stuff is a long way off.

This made me literally LOL.

Personally, I don't understand all the prequel hate. It's just a case of too-high expectations from long-time fans. I like the prequels, I like Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I think they were all good and they are all part of Star Wars and I love them. Still, in the wake of those movies, I felt overloaded with prequel stuff. I had SWMinis but always felt I had way more Republic/Separatist stuff than OT stuff and that made me sad. I'm really excited that FFG is focusing on the original trilogy for now. I feel like it gives their games a tighter focus and lets them worry about mechanics more without worrying too much about whether this or that ship makes sense fighting a different ship.

I'm glad Aahzmandius_Karrde mentioned the time periods, because I was thinking of those as well. What will these time periods be like? Considering that the first campaign is specifically after the first Death Star, I'm thinking the time periods aren't exactly following the movies. Instead, I think the time periods represent during and between the movies. For example:

1: Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: Dark Forces

2: A New Hope

3: Between ANH and TESB

4: The Empire Strikes Back

5: "Shadows of the Empire" (well, that time frame anyway)

6: Return of the Jedi

I just think that, given the time periods we have, it's unlikely we'll see prequel stuff. I'm not hating on it, but I'm okay with it. They may surprise us with additional time frames later, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the OT era before worrying about prequel and sequel trilogies.

Ultimately, it boils down to this:

Lucas had to tone down the silliness of the OT, partly due to it being a new entity, the blockbuster space opera, and partly due to other creative influences (Irvin Kershner directing V for example).

Whereas with the PT, he had complete and utter free range, confident in his success and the fan base, and he just went nuts. Midichlorians, Jar Jar, Anakin's horrible, horrible character, and so on. VI foreshadowed the PT in some ways due to the nonsense of the Ewoks.

Perhaps we should have seen it coming.

more EU stuff to flip off disney for making it all non canon.

The prequels are like herpes.....they suck and you can't get rid of them.

It was always less than official canon anyway. And the movies weren't beholden to them at all.

It was for the best... it allows full freedom to the movies. As well as allows them to move forward.

And discards awful stuff like Chewbacca dying by being crushed by a moon to save the Solo brat.

Since now all novels, comics, etc. have to be approved by the Star Wars Story Team to be official.

I'd rather see an expansion based on the holiday special

lol, mulletcheese!

Now I wish there was a "Dislike This" button! :D

Some very cool characters came out of the prequels which would be cool to see portrayed, Darth Maul, Mace Windu General Grievous to name a few. I'm not a fan of the movies but they are still a part of the lore now and deserve representation.

I'd rather see an expansion based on the holiday special

It would be better than a prequel expansion....so why not?

No. No it wouldn't. Especially given "Itchy's" pornographic hologram and horrific phallic chin.

I don't hate the prequels pal, but still would like to see this game stay in the Rebellion - Empire era its going to serve well coming up to the new films

FFG is on record as saying don't expect prequel stuff from them for their Star Wars games.

Thank God.

I am pretty much accepting of all offical Star Wars "stuff" (yes, even Jar Jar to an extent) and most of the former EU, now "Legends", material, but I am happy to have Imperial Assault stay within the rise of the Empire period and later. Given that FFG has accounted for different time periods through the side mission and agenda cards, it seems obvious we will see expansions based on content outside of the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Yavin. Most likely the next major period we will see will be the Force Awakens or perhaps the period between ESB and RotJ (aka Shadow of the Empire) given that X-Wing is coming out with material set during this period, such as Prince Xixor.

Who know, maybe some day FFG will release Republic Assault...

Who knows. Maybe their license doesn't let them.

They have stated that the license is all inclusive. You can see plenty of PT imagery and stuff used, just adapted to the chosen time period.

Understandably, they are not making PT because to their target audience, the PT is hated by the vast majority. And with the new movies coming out, I do believe there is a shift in focus by LFL to move the face of Star Wars away from the PT and onto the OT, which the new movies will continue.

We'll the haven't ignored the prequels completely as we have the Nexu in the game.

So we won't see any official "Clone Wars" era stuff or heros/villains from the series but they probably slip in aliens and character types from that era.

I distrust any member who's name is JarJarBinks.

I thought about that and came to the conclusion that they kind of had to use a PT animal.

In the EU there are many they could have used, but the EU was wiped away by Disney

In the OT there's the Wampa (snow planet exclusive), Rancor (WAY too big), Dianoga/Mynock/etc (too small)

...a Krayt Dragon would have been great, but he's a bit big (and we only see a skeleton). What else do we have....Gorax? Too large. TaunTaun? Not dangerous enough. Dewback? Pack animal. Space Slug? Nevermind....

Besides the Nexu, Diala Passil (a Togruta) is also very prequelish.

Nexu and Togruta also still exist in the time of the OT. They are not prequel exclusive in that regards.

I know, but both were introduced (and can be seen) in the prequels and aren't featured in the OT.

Nexu first appeared in the old republic pc game, part of the eu, they may have appeared in the prequels but they are not prequel generated material.

Togruta first appeared in the knights of the old republic comic, also not prequel generated, not that it matters as the character is clearly a twi'lek.

You're also mistaken on the Togruta. First appearance was in Episode II as well.
