X-Wing Slang Glossary

By mrfroggies, in X-Wing

In the context of gaming, LCG refers to "Living Card Game" -- FFG's concept for their card games doing away with the idea of buying booster packs upon booster packs to acquire powerful rare cards. Every player has access to the same cards without over buying.

As for X-wing, I'm not sure there is an anything referring to LCG.

Thanks. Saw it over here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/138659-x-wing-card-packs/page-9

As applied to X-wing, knife fighters are ships that can deliver close range fire turn after turn, without needing to bug out and reset to come back for another joust.

B-wings are generally the kings of this since they have all 5 one speed maneuvers, as well as a 2k and barrel roll. As conventional jousters have to fly by, the B-wing can keep the pressure on.

Yeah, and I think this is hugely problematic. B-wings shouldn't have a turn tighter than a red 2 turn, and most of their white should be 3 turns, considering their huge mass and poor maneuverability in all of the available information we have about them outside of this game.

I know they have huge mass, but I always viewed the "poor maneuverability" as "slow", rather than "flying a brick".

They're more maneuverable than the Y-Wing, canonically. So I'm okay with it being able to steer like crazy in close quarters, but not cover much ground.

Right, but if we're separating turning from movement (which is acceptable in space) they all should be able to turn to face which ever direction they like, more or less instantaneously. The issue for me is that, in the world of dogfighting, what makes it require any skill at all is the fact that you physically can't turn and bring your guns to bear without executing a turning circle, because you have to keep flying forward or you'll fall out of the sky. None of that applies to space, but it does apply to the way combat is done in the Star Wars universe. So, the B-wing is the only one in the game sort of disobeying the established rules of movement.

I chalk it up to swinging the hull around the cockpit while making maneuvers, to tighten the angle of the turn.

Actually I emailed FFG Customer Support quite some time ago and asked about rare, uncommon, blind boosters, etc. regarding X-Wing. They said that is not their business model. Of course as a business they are free to do whatever they wish (within the law).

Thankfully as the CCG is a model I am no longer interested in regardless of universe.

When I first started reading these forums, I came to this thread hoping to find an explanation of the term "meta". I have since come to understand it, and I realize it is short for metagame or metagaming. (Words which I had only heard in a negative context previously.) It might be worthwhile adding meta to the glossary as its usage in X-wing is confusing to those who do not come from a gaming background.

Can't hurt to add, but next to being a common word within both board and computer gaming, it is actually a quite often used term in a lot of fields. Basically it means 'refering to itself'. In the context of x-wing it means the game around the game (the lists currently being played), but there are many meta tems, like meta communication which is communicating about communication, meta analysing, analysing the ways to analyse, meta language a language used to describe languages, meta data, which is data describing the structure of the data, f.e. used in databases, etc.

SOONTIR FULL. I love it. High five!

I need to start adding Scum cards to the list now. I'm think ABT for Autoblaster Turret. Let me know what you guys think needs to be in there.

Some of us have been calling the Aggressor the Water Bug.

Brobots is mandatory for inclusion.

SuperFel - Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Autothrusters + Royal Guard Title + [stealth Device / Hull Upgrade / Shield Upgrade / Targeting Computer]

Even though it's rare you might also include the PHeaver-named Corran's Hog Farm. Or just Hog Farm to refer to any list with 2 or more warthogs.

Terms:

Reactionary Movement: Movement that can be made in reaction to an opponents move. IE: Barrel roll, boost, stay on target (formerly decloak)

Ships:

Blocker: cheap, low ps ship used to interfere with opposing ships movement.

Squads:

Brobots: dual or twin aggressor builds using the ig2k title.

Echoswarm: Echo with 4-5 tie fighters as blockers

What the heck is MOV? I've seen this term floating around recently and I have no idea what it means. The closest I can think of id the .MOV file format... and that has nothing to do with Star Wars or the X-wing Miniatures Game.

I forget what the letters stand for, but it is the tournament scoring thing that replaced strength of schedule. Or something like that, I don't pay that much attention to tournament stuff.

Edit. Margin of victory. That was it.

SuperFel - Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Autothrusters + Royal Guard Title + [stealth Device / Hull Upgrade / Shield Upgrade / Targeting Computer]

This is called The Red Baron ;)

I mentioned it a few times in this topic, but MrFroggy seems to ignore me.

I usually hear people call that SuperFel, but the Red Baron is such a much better name for it. Loving that!

Furball - A large engagement of fighter aircraft.

Furball - A large engagement of fighter aircraft.

In x-wing furball seems to refer more to a particular type of game format, usually involving multiple players and low point totals.

To be fair, the format was named for the clustering of fighter aircraft.

I've seen the terms WAC and WAAC dropped before... Does anyone know what those stand for?

W in A t A ll C osts

W in A t A ll C osts

The best part is saying it like early 90s slang. "Yo, that dude is WAAC!"

Stresshog. Rebel Warthog with R3-A2.
