I built my friend a list and now need help countering it.

By Bloodstripe Baron, in X-Wing

I built my friend a list when I was testing my Decimator and it crushed me. And without resorting to fat han, I'm not sure how to counter hit. Maybe high ps?

He now won't stop playing:

Tarn Mison — X-Wing 23

R7 Astromech 2

Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24

Predator 3

Chardaan Refit -2

Gold Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 18

Ion Cannon Turret 5

R3-A2 2

Blue Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 22

Advanced Sensors

Soontir Fel. Stay out of the front arc of the Y-wing and you should be good. Carnor Jax'll shut down Jake.

What Decimator build were you using? It would seem that the control that the Y-Wing brings to the list would be really strong against a 2 or 3 ship list that allows the Y-Wing to get to range 2.

When I played I was using:

Captain kenkirk

Ysanne isard

Carnor jax

Intimidation (not as practical as I'd hoped)

2 academy ties.

I completely misplayed Carnor trying out intimidation.

4 shuttles with ion.

Can I ask what ships you have?

add another decimator...

Hell, anything you've practiced with would do the trick.
If he keeps playing the same squad, the problem isn't the squad, but rather his familiarity with it.

Not list advice, but general advice.

Focus on Tarn first, Tarn + R7 is one of my favorite combos, but he doesn't do well under focused fire. The longer he's around the harder he is to kill. Don't get in front of the Y-Wing, then the stress droid won't matter.

I've got practically everything. And I guess the list isn't too much of a problem- tactics killed me in the game. I could never get enough shots on tarn quickly and he rerolled most of my hits to banks.

Just because I know some people make this mistake... R7 is a once a round thing.

But I will say that the more I look at the list you made, I can see it being a hard one to beat, it's a really good list.

Yeah, Carnor with Intimidation isn't a very good combo. His PS is too high for you to use him as a blocker and he becomes easy to kill if he isn't getting his actions.

It also looks like you don't have enough points spent on that Decimator. I'm of the opinion that if you are going to be spending that much on the base ship you really need to beef it up more. With PTL, Engine Upgrade, Kenkirk should be able to arc dodge well enough to keep out of the reach of the Y-Wing and to keep from getting fired on by more than a couple of the others in any given round.

Actually it's pretty good in general. Except va phantoms. Go double phantom. Avoid tarn. Or take yorr or a wingman black sq. you should rip it apart.

Echo or Whisper with Chiraneau (predator and gunner with engine) or oicunn with the similar build (add dauntless) should do well.

Yeah this will crush the posted list if you don't mess up with your Phantom plays!

I disagree on the avoid tarn thing. He has three attack, low Ps, and excels at defending against one shot per round. This makes him dangerous for the entire time he is alive since he predictably gets actions from moving first to bolster his strong attack and his ability gets stronger the fewer ships he is facing.

Unless there is a glass canon or a mistake in piloting of something presents an even juicier target, tarn must die first. This makes him a biggs clone with a much better defence for the same 25 points. One of the best ships in the game. Get him outta there, then punk the b wing, looking for shots on Jake - if you can switch targets to him, do it.

Jake's the second worst ship for end game after tarn, because he can use his maneuverabulity to arc Dodge and get shots that you can't return, but it is probably best to waste the b wing after tarn in order to eliminate both the 3 dice attacks asap, leaving him with only an ion cannon and an a wing attack.
