Accuracy Corrector + Ion Cannon = 3 Damage?

By benbaxter, in X-Wing

Does cancelling die results count as modifying them?

If Yes:

Accuracy Corrector is optional, but you use it before Ion Cannon kicks in. So you end up with two hits that can't be modified. Then Ion Cannon kicks in, but it isn't optional. It does its one damage + ion token, then it tries to cancel dice rolls. Except it can't, so three damage?

If No:

Then cool, and it acts just like any other Ion Cannon attack.

i'm confused

All the Ion upgrades specify "If this attack hits." If AC cancels all dice, there's no way the attack hits, so the Ion Cannon does nothing.

No, AC affects the dice results. Ion cannon kicks in if the attack hits, which then cancels all results.

Right, but if AC cancels the dice, how can anything hit?

Right, but AC already cancelled the dice results, then made new ones that are immune to modification. Which is why I as asked if cancelling counts as modification.

Because afterwards it adds two hits.

Ion attack --> roll attack --> AC modify roll --> if hit, enemy takes 1 damage & ion then cancel your results (no extra dmg)

I don't think AC's "no other mods" applies to Ion cancellation which isn't a modification (like re-rolls) so much as a nullification. I guess you can get real technical can call the cancel a modification, but I'm sure ffg will issue clarification to not allow 2 damage ICs which would be **** gnarly.

Still, good way to guarantee ions (esp the pulse missile) on low agi ships

Ah, didn't have my head on straight, nothing to see here.

It would be 2-3, because ion cannon does 1 damge too. So you either hit with 1 die or 2 and then add 1 damage because of ion cannon.

No. Even if it somehow did FFG would immediately FAQ it.

This game does require an element of common sense when intepreting the rules.

No. Ion attack if they hit deal one damage and affect of ion attack then dice results after are cancled or something like that either way no extra damage accurs

Short answer: no, Cancelling dice is not a modification. A modification would be things like rerolls, changing eyes to hits, changing hits to crits, things like that.

  1. Roll Attack Dice

Added results -like those from Accuracy corrector- cannot be modified, true, but they can be cancelled normally.

After the compare results step, when the attack is defined as a 'HIT', all results all cancelled, included those from AC, and the defender gains one ion token & suffers one damage, as usual.

So to sum up....

Accuracy corrector plus Ion means you always get 2 hits which if not dodged would result in normal Ion result of one damage plus Ion token.
