Action VI Bulk Transport Error?

By Korz, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I have been browsing through ships and trying to find something that a corp would use with a lot of cargo space. I stumbled on the Sil 5 10k encumbrance Action VI Bulk Transport for 200k credits. Is it me or did they just add an extra zero by mistake? Looking at other ships with similar cargo amounts and they are all sil 6+ and 780k credits plus. Am I crazy here?

You're crazy.

Now about your question about the space ship....

First off Sil isn't just a matter of size, but of maneuverability (see shooting in vehicle combat). The action series, while big, is pretty agile for it's size. So it's Sil 5. The higher end of Sil 5, but still 5...

Second Enc. Remember Enc isn't just weight, but size, bulk, overall space taken up, ect. Now look at that thing. Almost the entire midsection is one massive hold. Not like other ships that have compartments, just a huge box. So even really big, awkwardly shaped cargoes can fit in there. To boot, look at those engines. Big high thrust honkers. Not much speed, but ample brute force lifting power.

Finally cost. It's a box with engines. Mass produced. Purpose built and not very modular compared it's relatives like the CR series. Cheap. It won't be the best, most comfortable ride you ever had, but it'll get you and heck of a lot of something else where you want to go. Eventually. It's only got an x3 Hyperdrive too....

So there you have it. It can move a lot, but it doesn't have the numbers to do much else. Even customization options are limited by the rather lame starting numbers... Unless the GM allows for a total refit. But that' usually beyond the scope of the game, so there doesn't really need to be hard rules for that level of work..

Encumberance on ships is broken, mostly. I think they threw darts on a dartboard for the most part. Additionally, it seems like there is a vehicle scale for encumberance, but there is no mention of it. I'm hoping Fly Casual fixes or adds to the rules.

Is it just me or does that ship look like the first tool box I made in metal shop?

My character, "Upgrade", owns an Action VI he named "Raptor's Burden", so I've done a lot of research into that ship, and yea it can hold a metric **** ton, actually 90 Metric tons to be exact, its big, ugly and carries a lot of cargo, and is very fitting for my character, who is an Outlaw Tech that scavenges any wreckage he may come to build things and sell on the black market. His NPC sidekick is a Jawa named VeeVee, and our Action VI is all rusted up with few mods on it, much like a sandcrawler.

Anyways, I love this ship, esp for my character, here's a link to where I got most my info on it from.

90 metric tons is not a significantly large amount of freight.

IIRC that is slightly less than what WEG spec'd the YT1300 as carrying. So, yeah, that is pretty insignificant given the size of the Action VI vs a YT1300.

A commercial bus weighs in around 19 metric tons, so just from mass alone the Action VI could only carry 4 of them with your mass estimation. Not much of a bulk carrier.

The old Action's used to carry around 70-90,000 tonnes in the old system if I remember, which is a fair bit.

Real-world container ships carry about 35-55,000 and one of them rolling into port is a fairly big deal for the purposes of moving cargo on/off them.

Last time I privately imported a car, it came in on a Japanese roll-on-roll-off carrier with about 3000 or so other cars (+ a heap of other bits and pieces tucked away in there) and some of the really big ones can carry over 6000.

Also just thinking, the IV, V, AND VI are identical except for size....

Looks like a dustbuster/dirt devil to me.
