Well here goes...

By Ezuna, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Unboxed....sleeved....setup....about to start....

Hell of an impressive looking game.

O and I couldn't wait....already have 2 expansions on order...although not intending to play them for a few weeks...couldn't help myself :D

LOL. Enjoy the game :) What expansions did you get?

Dunwich coming in a couple of days and then after Xmas the King in Yellow :)

Now all I need is somewhere to download an 'IQ boost +100' and I'll be sorted :)

Halfway through my first turn and already consulting google lol :)

King in yellow with Dunwich: the best!

C'mon Ezuna, you can nail it! Hit it hard, hit it fast, and don't hit gates unless you have enough clues to seal them, or you're desperate (gate limit closing in)

Goodluck.

All the best!

How did it go?

Ah, this takes me back! First time unboxing this behemoth, so many cards! Then trying to fathom out the rules enough for that first play. Oh, sure, it all ended in tears, but it was one hell of an experience, and just kept on bringing me back for more!

Ezuna, I hope it was awesome for you, whether you won or lost!

Ah well Christmas interrupted everything naturally and got only a few turns in before had to clear it away.

To be honest I had to take so many breaks to consult google or youtube as there were points in the rules where I was just 'Em...not sure what to do here'.

The rule book is very good and has a nice flow to it, but there are so many grey areas.

However I did find a youtube guy - TragicTheBlathering that plays through Core and is very good so I took a few hours and watched him play up until about turn 5 I think.

So I'm a lot clearer now on what I'm doing. After I get yet another party out of the way later today (one which I grudgingly must attend) then I'll have another bash tomorrow I think) :)

Ezuna,

I'm sorry to hear that you're finding the rules a bit confusing, but it's not that uncommon of a complaint. As beautiful as FFG produces rules, clarity and editing are not their strong suits. Having said that, the basic concept is this... Follow the Phases . If you do so, that will resolve more than 90% of the questions you have...I can almost guarantee it. I've been out here answering questions for nearly six years, and in most cases, it's simply players getting tripped-up over something that's 'easy' once you think about it phase-by-phase.

I wish you the best of times and years of enjoyment with my, hands-down, favorite board game in my collection (of about 100 games).

Cheers,

Joe

Well gave this another go and just don't think it's for me...just doesn't 'do it' for me.

My copy of of LOTR LCG did however arrive yesterday and I'm loving it...fantastic game and wife and I love playing it. Already got some of the expansions on order.

So Arkham is gathering dust but maybe one day I'll blow the dust off and try it again.

Horses for courses as they say :)

Cheers all

Sorry to hear that Ezuna - but it's always best to go with what you enjoy, and I'm glad to hear you've got something as awesome as the LotR LCG! If that one day does come around, you'll know where to find us all, anyway!
