I've managed to drag myself away from the forums long enough to read a bit occasionally.

I've just read Ray Bradburys 'the illustrated man' which is great, cant believe i never read it before, its more short stories and the connective narrative of the tattoed man isnt needed.

Its awesome as apart from referring to all space ships as 'rockets' its not dated badly at all.

i also read Kurt Vonneguts 'apocalypse retropsectively' this week, again short stories with a real emphasis on his time as a POW and life in occupied europe. well worth a read.

Comics wise i cant rave enough about 'SAGA' which is like 'star wars for grown up', very dark, very explicit in places but will make you cry with both laughter and sadness at times.

My wife is reading 'crossed' which is one of the darkest graphic novels ever....

So what are you guys reading?

Depending on the year, I read about a book a week.

I am a huge fan of both Bradbury and Vonnegut, having read most everything by both.

This year I discovered John Connolly.

I enjoyed the Weston Ochse Seal Team 666 books and the Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell in the last couple years.

In 2015 I am going to read the last two Steinbeck novels and at least 2 more Heinlein.

- A steam-punk fantasy novel written by a friend for review

- Metropolen aan de Noordzee 1100 - 1560 (Metropolises at the Northsea 1100 - 1560) - about the development of the low countries in this era. Encompases roughly Northern France, Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and a large part of Western Germany

The joys of have an e-reader. It usually travels with me where ever I go, so if I'm waiting for a pizza or something, I've always got something to read. I'm currently reading War Torn by Andy McNab, and just started reading the Rogue Squadron series, which I'm finding is not too bad.

I've read through the first few Horus Heresy novels, but they are starting to get a bit same-ish. I enjoy my military fiction and Andy McNab and Tom Clancy are my go-to authors there. I've got some, not all, of Terry Brooks Shannara series. I read the first three decades ago and enjoyed them.

Reading Cibola Burn, book 4 of The Expanse. This series is some of the best scifi around. It is being developed into a series for Syfy next year.

If Game of Thrones and 2001 had a baby, it would be this book series.

I also just finished The Martian. Sci fi book of the year for a reason.

King took 5 to 6 years between several of the Dark Tower books.

Well yes, but he wrote several novels between Dark Tower books. Near as I can tell Martin has been spending his free time counting money, and Rothfuss has been playing D&D at conventions.

I have (half of) "bloody red baron", "dracula cha cha cha", "sense & sensibilities a seamonsters" and the sequel to "pride & prejudice & zombies" to go trough.

Recently tracked down and aquired two of my favorite childhood (childrens) novels: Room 13 and Kraterland.

Letters from the Earth? I loved it but it is not for everyone, a lot of the stuff in that collection is still pushing boundaries today.

Thrawn trilogy is still fantastic.

I was disappointed in the Tarkin book. It started off ok, but then became too narrowly focused. They were looking for something like the Kenobi book I think, but it fell short in my opinion.

Currently am reading Vision of the Future. Just finished reading The Three Musketeers and Captain Blood. I love Isaac Asimov's Robot/Empire/Foundation series too. Also the Redwall series by Brian Jacques is awesome! I highly recommend them to anyone who likes reading.

Im waiting for the new John Connolly Charlie Parker book. No idea when it is supposed to be out but im waiting. I got a surprise present from my understanding wife (the reason i stayed in the states so i should hope so) The 'Alien Archive' and the 'Art of Alien Isolation' books which are both excellent. I was pleasantly surprised to see the design work in Isolation was excellent didnt throw away the aesthetic of the original film. I also, a while ago but i study it constantly, got the Garmillas and Earth technical/art books from Yamato 2199 which could not have pleased me more as i am a giant fan of the design work in the Yamato saga.

As for regular reading i have a sad liking for the Deathlands post apocalypse series. up to something like 70 books now *L* and of varying quality. But while they involve the same characters they are written by a stable of authors so that is to be expected.

I still read the Honor Harrington books but i think it is more out of a sense of loyalty than anything else as they have got a bit samey of late. The same with the SM Stirling changes series. They are getting a bit stale but i have read all of them so far and since they will be ending soon i believe i feel the urge to stick it out.

Sometimes i wonder if there ought to be a limit on how many stories an author can write about the same characters. You hear me Salvatore?

I am also a lover of gritty cold war spy thrillers so have been re-reading my LeCarre recently as well as everyones favourite sociopath James Bond for lighter versions of the same genre.

Other than that i can always pick up any golden age SF author like the three Hs 'Heinlein Hamilton and Harrison' and start reading it. I never tire of that era. Same with Robert E Howard and the pulp crowd. (though tearing myself away from the game Age of Conan to read the books can be hard whne im not feeling all that focused.)

Last book I read was Titanicus from Dan Abnett.

Before that the first 5 books of the Horus Heresy.

Still trying to find Double Eagle but I am not going to buy it at a stupid price or from The Black Library.

I was pleasantly surprised by The child thief. I hve always like the Peter Pan story and was hesitant about a reimagining (Speilberg's Hook traumatized me *L*) But i enjoyed that one. As well as the more recent novel Alias Hook. Which takes a somewhat darker view on Neverland life

Funny thing to say on a forum about a game based one of the bigger fiction movies of the past 100 years. With that attitude one would imagine you wouldn't watch fiction either, that time better being spent on documentaries or instructional videos?
