Convoy of Freighters Build - Epic level build help

By Surak, in X-Wing

Hi all,

I've recently got back into X-wing thanks to the YT2400 (too many childhood memories to pass that one up) and I've decided to make the step into the Epic level with a pair of Rebel Transports (both picked up cheap). Now I'm playing with some themed builds for a 300 point epic list that consists entirely of freighters and doesn't use any proxy cards and wondered if anyone has tried it/has any suggestions. My collection is in my Sig, but here it is again of convenience;

1 starter set (minus TIEs and related cards),
1 X wing expansion,
3 Z95 expansions,
3 HWK 290 expansions,
2 Y wing expansions,
2 E wing Expansions,
1 YT 1300,
1 YT 2400,
1 Rebel Transport,
1 Rebel Transport (minus xwing stuff),
1 Rebel Aces set

So thats the expansions I have access to, I'll post up whatever build(s) I come up with once I've finalised it but i'd like to see what you people come up with as well.

Regards and Seasions Greetings

Surak

Do you count the YT's and HWK's as freighters as well?

Hi Dagonet,

Yes I'm counting the YT's and HWK's as freighters for this one, they are after all just humble transports :)

Give everything ion and see if you can run over the enemy with your two transports lol...

This is a small thematic list, where I've tried to stay away from any named characters, the only one being Toryn Farr, but she's an unknown anyway. You could easily transfer this to S&V once that comes out.

GR-75 Medium Transport (30)
WED-15 Repair Droid (2)
Toryn Farr (6)
Engine Booster (3)
Frequency Jammer (4)
Backup Shield Generator (3)

an interesting little list.

I'd probably drop the Quantum Storm title for the Duty Free one and throw another upgrade in there somewhere as the Duty Free improves the Frequncy Jammer.

And there is enough Ion in there to "Plow the Road" with the transports

Sure, go ahead, I was basically burning up points at the start so I took some expensive stuff. :P.

With some trimming here and there you could end up with a nice list.

But keep the repair droid, last game i played with my transport he must have fixed its hit points from about 2 remaining to full a couple of time. Did have to move slow and burn off a lot of tibanna though.

(it was scenario so my transport was carrying three loads of tibanna gas)

Ok,

my first attempt (based off of Dagonet's list above)

GR-75 Medium Transport (30)
WED-15 Repair Droid (2)
Slicer Tools (7)

I'll try a proper Rebel one later with named characters etc.

Not sure which build I like more at this stage

I think the list has *more* 'character' with perhaps one or two less characters.

I did a similar convoy build for my scenario and its was based around dash rendar (indentical build to yours above) protecting an ORS and a transport of tibbanna gas from a 'wolf pack' of phantoms that had ambushed them led by echo.

Making it an 'episode' featuring a main character aside gave it a real feel. I think if everyone is a special character it seems a bit like an all star cast

Good list though! :)

Yeh I see what you mean about the "All Star Cast", guess it shows my Star Trek background (not sure which one in my list is the token red shirt).

The problem is who/what to drop;

Dash, Kyle, and Roark work really well as a squadron (its pretty much my go-to starting point for a large squad these days)

Obviously both the GR 75's need to be there for an Epic Convoy

That leaves the Falcon as the sacrifice.

Any thoughts people?

Ok,

Well this game actually happened yesterday, however the points value increased greatly to 500pts per player, two players per side. One of the other players took pictures each turn so once I've got those of of him I'll post up what I can. I'll also see if I can get the lists that the other players used (there was a certain amount of last moment adjustment as we enforced the unique rule across the entire side not just per player).

The rebel fleet allied to mine included a Corvette, 3 A wings (including Tycho), and 9 B-wings (!)

The highlights of the Imperials against us (otherwise known as what I can remember):

all the named TIE fighter pilots back up by a load of generics

2 TIE Advanced and a bomber acting as a squadron

at least 6 Phantoms

1 decimator

at least 6 TIE Interceptors

-----------------------------------------------------

By the end of the game (8 turns) here is what I had left;

The Falcon - all shields gone and taken 2 hits

The Outrider - lost 2 shields

Dutch - Lost a shield

Tarn Mison - unhurt

Kyle Katarn - unhurt

Airen Cracken - unhurt

Horton Salm - unhurt

Blount - lost 1 shield

Dreis - lost 1 shield

Roark - taken 2 hits

-------------------------------------------------------

The GR75 transports got more or less ignored (mainly due to there lack of "Attack") right up until the Dutyfree ran over a pair of TIE/IN, at that point the Imperial players both decided that the Transport had to die. They did succeed, however at the cost of almost all of there TIE/IN and two of the Phantoms.

Hopefully some pictures coming soon.
