Good Rebels lists WITHOUT Falcon/Slave/A-wing/B-wing upgrade cards

By Paulochromis, in X-Wing

As a relative late bloomer, I'm struggling to make (= blatantly steal from the internet) good rebel squads without access to a lot of ships that I'm either unlikely to field (Transport+Corvette) or will have to wait a while to get hold of (Falcon+A-wing+B-wing+Y-wing).

This is what I own

2x Core

Rebels

1x X-wing

1x HWK-290

1x E-wing

23x Z-95 Headhunter
1x Rebel Aces
1x YT-2400
1x Y-wing
1x YT-1300
1x Rebel Transport
Imperials
1x TIE Fighter
1x TIE Advanced
1x TIE Interceptor
1x TIE Bomber
1x Imperial Aces
1x TIE Defender
1x TIE Phantom
VT-49 Decimator
1x Firespray-31

I know that seems like plenty, but the lack of Astromechs (Transport & Y-wing), plus other X-wing pilots (Transport), plus Falcon upgrades (Draw Their Fire/Engine Upgrade) is giving me fits.

Help me FFG forum, you're my only hope.

Corran Dash

SuperDash (Dash + Outrider + HLC + stuff - up to you)

Corran Horn (VI + stuff - up to you, R2D2 and FCS seem popular)

You want something competitive, what Gundamv suggested is a pretty good bet.
Dash

Outrider
HLC

Push the Limit
Recon Specialist

Engine Upgrade

Corran
R2-D2
Fire Control System
Veteran Instincts
Shield Upgrade
Corran needs to hunt down the mobile Hi PS pilots trying to exploit Dash's R1 weakspot, Dash meanwhile does what he does, blowing massive holes in everyone in sight, flying through rocks and ****.

Ooops, didn't see that you don't have EU. Uh, Shield Upgrade on Corran then.

No Veteran Instincts either.

An out-of-the-box list:

Roark Garnet

Ion Cannon Turret

Jan Ors

Kenan Farlander

Push the Limit

Fire control system/Sensor Jammer/Advanced Sensors(whatever you seem to need, FCS prob overkill, Sensor Jammer prob what you want here)

E2 mod

Kyle Katarn

Wedge

Predator/Outmaneuver/Lone Wolf

R5-K6

OR

Luke

Lone Wolf

R5-K6/R2-D2

Flechette Torp

Roark makes Kenan shoot first, he uses the stress token and gets an evade from the Kyle-Jan combo. Wedge/Luke means the opponen can't just focus on Kenan. If you get a Y-Wing then you can slap an R2-unit on Wedge and give him push and a flechette.

Thanks guys.

I had seen that I can field the Sideslip Dash/Corran combo.

But am really struggling to use my X-wings, That said, when reading the forums, that appears to be a common problem.

I guess what I'm really doing is psyching myself into justifying buying the transport.

I would stick with the Corran/Dash combo if i were you. It's just a pity that you don't have Veteran instincts to deal with Phantoms! Engine upgrade on Dash lacking hurts a bit too.

I Guess you could also go for a Double X-Wing plus Hwk synergy list. With Biggs, Wedge, Kyle/Jan. It's not awesome, but it's decent for friendly games (no phantoms involved xD)!

Or just search the forum for Frog Squadron (consisting of 3 X-Wings). It's as old-school as it gets but can be fun and fluffy, with Biggs/Luke/Wedge!

Is there any specific reason why you need to physically own the extra upgrade cards?

Can't you just proxy them by either printing a web image of the card or printing out a squad list from a squad building app ?

Loaded Corran with Biggs and two bandits. It's effective!

Dash/ Corran.

Etahn X ZZ-lots of options here.

For a fun, semi-competitive list, nothing like the Trench Run:

Trench Run

Wedge Antilles (29)
Predator (3)
R2 Astromech (1)

Luke Skywalker (28)
Draw Their Fire (1)
R2-D2 (4)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Biggs Darklighter (25)
R5 Astromech (1)
Hull Upgrade (3)

Total: 99

The items in red are upgrades you don't own. They aren't necessary, but Draw Their Fire on Luke is pretty good for keeping Biggs alive. Without those, you have 3-4 points left for upgrades of your choice.

For a simpler list you could run XXBZZ

Rookie Pilot (21)

Rookie Pilot (21)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Total: 88

That leaves you 12 points to add upgrades and/or improve pilots.

Dash (HLC, Outrider) plus escorts is also pretty strong.

Just my 2 cents.

It doesnt help with what you've got but a Y wing would open up a lot of great builds for you.

You could then run the classic 'action sharing' target lock focus combo of dutch and garven.

Then use the remaining 40 or so points with your z95s (possibly the guy who ensures hit so you're *always* ionising?)

I've got three spares of Dutch Vander and i'd happily send you his pilot card and chit but it would be pointless as you dont have the model or wheel.

I know its not what you asked for but i think if you could treat yousself to a y wing for xmas (currently the restocked wave so easy to get too) you coudl have a lot of fun with a XYZZ list.

I agree that getting a Y-wing would help you a lot. First thing I did was look at your list to see if you can take Dutch. Oh, well.

I don't think that X-wings have problems. It's just that they don't have turrets, can't barrel roll or boost, and fly like an average ship. It's not that they are bad, but that lots of other ships got easier to fly. I still say they are nasty. The trick is to use them together. You need to watch your backs against each other. I recall one popular strategy was to get into a furball and take turns alternating K-turns between your X-wings. The approach with an X-wing is the brutal part. You can do a lot of damage on the first pass. It's just learning how to cover your 6 after that.

Spending all my spare cash (and then some!) on the wife & kids this Christmas, but the Y-wing is on my shopping list for next year. I know there are a couple of good Astromechs in that expansion.

For those of you who kept suggesting Veteran Instincts, I do have a copy of that, forgot to list that I have a Slave as well.

As for physical, legal copies, I still don't have a great feel for how the local clubs view proxies.

Thanks again, and happy holidays!

Wedge

Biggs

Rookie

Bandit

Bandit

(I used Wedge with Swarm Tactics, Biggs, Rookie x2 at a recent tourney and went 4-1, I imagine swapping out a Rookie for two Bandits may yield a decent return).

Wife got me the Transport for Christmas, so:

hello Wes, Jek, Hobbie & Tarn, plus 4 Astromechs!

Things are looking good!

Hobbie + R3-A2 and flechetes is good fun, just tricky to pull off sometimes. Tarn and R7 are also a solid combo.

I had allot of fun running the following list the other day:

Wild Fringer + HLC + Outrider

Keyan + Advanced Sensors

Tarn + R7

And you could swap Tarn out for a Rookie with R2-D2, Roark with blaster turret and recon specialist or 2x bandits while you wait

I think it was Nathan the kid at worlds who ran a list of Biggs with hull, corran with r2d2 ptl fcs and shield upgrade and 2 talas if I recall

Updated the what I own list (1st post).

I can field a LOT of good squads now :D

My son and I are practising, he liked the way my BXXZZZ swarm picked apart his VT-49/Defender combo and want to try his hand at a swarm too.

I could field the Super Dash/Corran Horn combo, but am curious as to what is the best 2nd tier build for the YT-1300.

By that I mean probably still with Engine Upgrade, but without C-3PO. I don't have R2-D2 (Crew) either.

I'm thinking I need to pick two from Recon Specialist, Lando Calrissian, Gunner and Luke Skywalker.

Thoughts?

Just my 2 cents but I would go for a super dash but with no corran, instead add a bwing and try to fit 2 z95s in

Ah, sorry, thanks for the reply, but I'm looking for a 2-ship turret squad, so my son can practise swarming.

So for rebels, I'm looking at a moderately obese YT-1300 (no Corvette upgrade cards), and a YT-2400, or one of those two with a flanker (Corran Horn).

Chewie and Leebo make a good YT-1300/2400 combo. Just outfit them however you like until they are both around 50 points. Determination is great on Leebo.

I would probably do something like this:

“Leebo” (50)

YT-2400 Freighter (34), Determination (1), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Recon Specialist (3), Outrider (5)

Chewbacca (50)

YT-1300 (42), Predator (3), Jan Ors (2), Recon Specialist (3)

Total: 100 pts

Keep them close together and abuse the crap out of Rec Spec and Jan Ors for focus/evade tokens as needed.
